The Bears Team |
Discipline Policy |
For our team to be successful, we need to act like students. We all must come to class prepared to learn, we must treat each other with respect, and we must do our best to follow school and team rules. |
A saying that we emphasize each year is, "Every Decision has a Consequence." If you decide to follow school and team rules all the time, the consequence is positive: You will be happy and successful! |
If you decide, however, to break our school and team rules, there are negative consequences. They are as follows: |
1. Lunch Detention/Parent Phone Calls: The least severe consequence on the Bears Team is lunch detention. This is the consequence for breaking minor rules. If you are late for class, if you are somewhat disruptive or disrespectful, if you are horseplaying in the hallway, or if you are unprepared you may be given a lunch detention. |
Lunch detention students lose their privilege to sit with their friends in the lunch room. They may also have to return to the team room before the end of lunch and participate in a phone call to their parents explaining what happened at school. |
2. After-School Detention: After school detention is given to students who break a more significant rule, or to students who have already served three lunch detentions. If you are very disrespectful or disruptive, if you are very mean to another student, if you horseplay in a dangerous way, or if you take something that belongs to someone else, you may be given after school detention. |
After school detention takes place from 3:00 until 4:00 each Tuesday and Thursday. Students who are given after school detention must report to Mr. Ferriter's classroom immediately after the final bell. They must work silently on homework, make-up work, or work given by teachers until 4:00. Also, students have to make arrangements with their parents to be picked up promptly at 4:00. |
3. Office Referral: When a student breaks a very serious school rule, or has been given after school detention three times, they will be sent to the office. If you get into a fight, if you steal something, or if you completely disrupt what happens in a classroom, you will be sent to the office. |
When you are sent to the office, there are many different consequences. Almost always, a parent phone call is involved. The principals can also give students a two hour after school detention, an in school suspension, or an out of school suspension. |
Students assigned to in school suspension are sent to a room where they must work silently, by themselves on school work for the entire day. Talking is not allowed, students cannot go to P.E., to their elective, or to lunch with their friends. |
Students assigned to out of school suspension are not allowed in school at all. Also, students can be given zeros for any assignments that they miss during out of school suspensions. |
Students given in school or out of school suspension also lose their rights to come to school dances. |
We encourage you to make positive decisions all year long. Positive decisions always lead to positive consequences. With your help, we can make this your favorite year in school. We love working with students and having fun! |
We must, however, make sure that everyone feels safe and that everyone is treated with respect. That is why we have rules for everyone to follow, and negative consequences for those who don't! |
Make us Proud!!! See if you can make it through the entire year without breaking any rules! |
