Parents and students:
Over the next few weeks, we will be working on a project in my enrichment class related to the novel, Letters from Rifka.  The description of this project can be completely found online at:

http://www.todaysteacher.com/EllisIslandWebQuest/gatewaytodreams.htm

Along with the complete project description, this site also includes internal links to many websites that will help your child to complete the project.

The following websites will also help your child while completing his/her project:

http://teacher.scholastic.com/immigrat/index.htm:  This page contains many different activities that are interesting and informative.  Be sure to visit it while doing your research!  You can read stories written by immigrants and view research on the lives that immigrants lived.

http://www.glencoe.com/sec/literature/cgi-bin/splitwindow.cgi?top=http://www.glencoe.com/sec/literature/top2.html&link=http://lcweb.loc.gov/rr/print/070_immi.html:  This website contains many good pictures of what immigrants experienced while at Ellis Island.

http://teams.lacoe.edu/documentation/classrooms/language/rifka/web/web.html: This page contains many links to websites that may be helpful to you while completing your project.  I haven`t checked out all of these sites, so some may be better than others, but this could provide you with a great place to start if you are stuck.

http://ellisisland.org/:  One of the best resources!  Will allow you to enter the name of your immigrant and view the actual manifest that was filled out when he/she arrived in America.  These manifests show the types of questions that were asked of immigrants before they entered the U.S….Also, this site will allow you to do some basic research about immigration in general.

I also recommend that you check out the links provided within each of these websites while researching.  They may lead you to more information that you may find helpful!

Rock on,
Mr. F
