r4zz3nd4hcub3n: i just saw the passion
fbjourneykiD: did they lose the message by over
doing the physical story?
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: no
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: gibson did an awesome job
fbjourneykiD: i have issues with the film, but im
definitly going to see it
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: believe me, at the end of hte film,
no one sat around thinking, "Man, i wish they done
_____ differently." rather, everyone was
speechless
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: this isnt a film to quibble with. it
follows the gospel and makes it clear that jesus
was dying for mankind's sin
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: i feel like throwing up right now
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: not surprisingly, the liberals are
already whining their heads off. at first i was angry,
but really it serves its purpose: if the pluralists
dont like it, it must mean that it was done correctly
fbjourneykiD: ok, you gotat be more understanding
than "the liberals are already whining their heads off",
they might be doing just that, but there are some serious
people who legatimatly fear what might come about
from this film, hitler saw the passion play in 1934 and
said it was "the best representation of the jewish race
i've ever seen", he proceded to have the play tour over
nazi germany for his troups/and in cities for the next 8
years, some of the concerns are legit
fbjourneykiD: im not saying its a bad film
fbjourneykiD: but comeon
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: thats great mark. you sit and
ponder with your fellow skeptics about who killed
jesus
fbjourneykiD: im gonna block you
fbjourneykiD: i dont need this
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: the premise of the film isnt who
killed jesus. a better question is who did NOT kill
jesus?
fbjourneykiD: WE
fbjourneykiD: killed jesus
fbjourneykiD: if thats what comes across, then
awesome, the concerns are wrong, but you cant jump
onto it, these people have a reason to be scared
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: who are "these people?"
fbjourneykiD: the jewish and the liberals advocating
for them who fear the film will raise anti semitism
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: the film makes it dead obvious
that a bunch of self-righteous pharisees leading an
impulsive, bloodthirsty mob were the people who
demanded crucifixion
fbjourneykiD: im not defending just random people
sitting up and complaining about it
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: mark, the jews and libs that you
think have a concern havent even seen the movie. i
am firmly convinced that any organization that is
capable can and will make a fuss if it draws
attention to their cause
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: read the bad reviews for passion
at rottentomatoes.com.
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: the reviews dont even mention
the "big issue" of anti-semitism
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: they just whine that the physical
violence overshadows what the "real spiritual
meaning" behind christ's death was, as if they
understand it at all
fbjourneykiD: all i wanted to do was try to get you to
stop saying things like the liberals are already whining,
because people will react negativly like that..and
rottentomatoes..PFFT is all i say to that bull crap
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: rottentomatoes is a collection of
reviews....
fbjourneykiD: keith, what i react against in you, is the
fact that you are one of the prime examples of people
who build a huge dichotomy between liberals and
conservatives, and that dichotomy does exist, but the
last thing we need is this image that "these people" (on
both sides) are entirely different, we're all humans, we
all can be wrong, i just get really sick of people w ho
are like "oh, he's a liberal", or "oh, hes republican", that
and denominations, thats my phase right now
fbjourneykiD: break down the walls
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: and right now about half are
saying stuff like "the basic message of Christianity
- love your brother - is obscured under torrents of
blood to the point of benumbing the audience."
fbjourneykiD: that doesnt mean change a thing
fbjourneykiD: but the walls dont need to be there
fbjourneykiD: im trying really hard to break from it
myself
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: i thought i had made it clear in
past conversations that liberal and conservative
are not the same as Republican and Democrat
fbjourneykiD: i wasnt saying they were
fbjourneykiD: i was using two random examples
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: well its the liberal scholars who
have distorted bible, i dont really think you can
argue much there. but at the same time, i would
say the church is gonna have a tough time
converting liberals if we make a wall where one
side is bad, one side is good, and so forth
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: i think we agree on that point
fbjourneykiD: im glad, i apologize for being
oversensative to the topic, but i just am right now
fbjourneykiD: its entirely too prominent
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: but thats just semantics, my point
is that mel gibson, a catholic , for heaven's sake,
made a great film
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: the sad truth, however, is that if
you are not familiar with the gospel it may not
make sense.
fbjourneykiD: a non practicing catholic who didnt
profess christ until about a month ago whent he
controversy came out..
fbjourneykiD: mind you..
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: which is why you get these
pluralist reviewers whining
fbjourneykiD: ill respect mel gibsonwhen his testimony
is rockin 5 years from now
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: its ironic that the evangelicals are
jumping all over this as the greatest ministry
opportunity in 2000 years, whereas... i have no
clue what the catholics are doing
fbjourneykiD: if i go see the film and i love it, then i
still wont respect him
fbjourneykiD: well theyre doing nothing because
gibson is non practicing, he'
fbjourneykiD: s practically kicked out
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: well, that's a moot point. i didnt
watch the film thinking, "nice job, mel, you know
your stuff!" i watched the film thinking "i should be
there"
fbjourneykiD: good, your not on the bandwagon, im
glad
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: one has to make an effort to get
something out of film. to any cynic, its going to be
nothing more than bloodbath
fbjourneykiD: i went to my dads church a few weeks
ago, and they had an insert with what it meant to be a
Baptist, and i thought it was hilarious that the same day,
fred phelps was representing what it meant to be
"baptist" in boston, and the first baptist church
downtown was holding a rally in support of gay
marriage
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: yeah
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: "The basic lesson is that
Hollywood is here to entertain, not educate. If you
want to learn about Christ, your local pastor or
priest probably is a better bet."
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: "the last tempation of christ" was
hollywood's version of jesus
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: how stupid are these people
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: if it was a hollywood concoction,
no one would be whining. these people know
nothing about the gospel and think they have a
right to comment. i cant stand it, but there's nothing
i can do
r4zz3nd4hcub3n: i might as well just sum up my
review of the movie with this: if you don't
understand the gospel, it is just some guy getting
brutally beaten. otherwise, it is very powerful
