Info: From the start, Matt has considered himself, the "self-respecting cool one" according to Tai, but that is what is on the outside of his character. What's on the inside however, is a completely different story all together. When he first arrived in the Digital World, he first duty was to protect his little brother TK and he often tells him to stay behind and not get hurt. He told Tai shortly after that he and TK were half-brothers(this was a dub error for they are full brothers, it's just that their parents divorced)and that he had a sense to watch out for him.

Of course, this wasn't Matt's only folly. He also argues with Tai over just about everything. The first example came pretty early and Joe got caught in the thick of it. Luckily, this bickering didn't split the group up. Matt and Tai had another fight whilst stranded on an island after Devimon revealed himself. Matt wanted to find TK as soon as he could, yet Tai suggested otherwise, resulting in a fight that almost got them sent over a cliff to their deaths, if Frigimon hadn't been there to break their fall.

Matt picked up his crest at the same time Izzy got his, the Crest of Friendship was Matt's and it took a while for it to work. Joe ended up washing dishes at a resturant and thanks to DemiDevimon, Matt ended up helping him, plus the little liar made it so that Joe would keep messing up, making Matt lash out at him in anger. Good thing Tai and TK arrived to save the day, with help from WereGarurumon.

Kari found out the hard way that Matt doesn't really like to express his feelings, and that caused her to cry, making him feel really guilty, but he'd make up for it, thanks to his love for his little bro resulting in the birth of MetalGarurumon. It seemed that he and Tai had patched things up, but alas, it wouldn't last as their return to the Digital World, would make things even worse.

Matt got into another argument with Tai, this time over Mimi's emotions over the Digimon who lost their lives to protect them. This act caused his crest to stop glowing, forcing him to leave and think about things. Cherrymon manipulated him into fighting Tai, and MetalGarurumon would stand by him, no matter what the decison. Matt and Tai had one last fight, and it was a doozy, as WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon locked horns as well. The others tried to stop them and many just turned away in digust, but it was fortunate that the entity who borrowed Kari's body showed up when it did as it stopped the fighting. Afterwards, Matt still left the group as he wanted to figure out his purpose.

Other than appearing to defeat Puppetmon, Matt didn't make another appearance until the battle with Piedmon. He wound up in a cave where the darkness in his heart started to consume him and Gabumon had to resort to biting him to get him out of it. It worked and Matt would also help Sora to deal with the same problem that he had. He and Tai finally got over their arguing and have been friends since, although Matt does hit him at times to snap him out of it when things go bad.
