The Bright Lights
Colin w/ Frank Neilson at MOJO Studios (aka Frank's place) for the completion of the Bright Lights' second cassette project RETURN TO CLUB 40, an instrumental project (of a somewhat ambient/sountracky nature) meant to reflect the guys' musical experiences and influences in a "deeper" sort of way... maaan. If you ever get to hear "Mr. Emerson" or "Stung" you will wonder what they hell they think "ambient" means!
So You Think You've Seen... The Bright Lights was the
first cassette project
undertaken by Frank and Colin. This was a full band project that
played a few
shows in Vancouver. Recorded in friend (and engineer for this
project) Jon Rice's
basement rehearsal space on a 4 track. It's a noisy affair to
be sure.
The band perform an extremely nasty version of "Proud Mary"
and Vancouver band TERMINAL CITY's great "City Love."
"Probably one of my favourite CDN bands of all time has
to be Terminal City.
When we moved out to Vancouver in 1986 I felt completely alone
musically. I happened to see a blurry kind of poster/shot for
a CITR session they were doing so I tuned in. I was blown away!
They did a Byrdsy/Who-ish kinda thing. Doug the guitar player
was completely bonkers too! Leaping and smashing. Brilliant! Just
what I had been looking for.
My buddies the Marks and I went to all their shows.
I auditioned at one point but they didn't pick me. I have never
been so bummed in all my life. It may have been the best thing
tho as Linda (bassist/singer) went on to join Spirit Of The West.
Vince (the drummer) died a few years later of MS. Like I said,
maybe the greatest CDN band I have ever seen. I still have a copy
of their unreleased LP!" (Colin)
