The Pussycat Dolls
PCD
A&M Records/UMA

Rating: 33%

“Don’t Cha” was so hot that the Pussycat Dolls rush-recorded their debut album PCD in order for it to be ready to cash in on the success of the mega-single, one of the biggest hits of 2005.

Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that; this is commerce we’re talking about, not pop brilliance. It’s a shame, though, that PCD is so lazily put together…but then it’s worth recalling that this is an album of burlesque dancers – strippers, if you prefer – bumpin’ ‘n grindin’ their way through the album.

The real star of the show is Nicole Scherzinger, who was a part of the American Popstars ground Eden’s Crush, with the five other thin young things there for window dressing. The first three tracks – featuring Busta Rhymes, will.i.am, and Timbaland respectively – are the strong singles, with everything else coming in as an added ‘bonus’.
