How it Works |
I have calculated and figured out what exactly I need to make my body work. This is what I will share with you. First, Protein...that does not mean that I allow myself to eat pounds of meat at a sitting. But I allow myself 30 grams of protein per meal, and 15 grams of protein per snack. I have 2 snacks a day and 3 meals a day. Second, Carbohydrates.....No I do not cut them out of my diet, but I do limit those I know are bad for my body and that turn to immediate sugar and land on my hips. I allow myself 30 grams of carbohydrates per meal, and 15 carbohydrates per snack. This reason being that you must have a balance in your body. I do eat pasta and breads and grains, but very limited and only whole wheat. The small difference in learning to eat whole wheat products versus white flour products alone, changes the way you feel. Not to mention, whole wheat products give us a great deal of fiber, that our bodies need. And with that mentioned, I get 30 grams of fiber per day. Thirdly, I make sure I get good fat in my diet and have eliminated as much bad fat as I can. I allow myself 30 grams of fat per day. You might be saying wow, she uses 30 a lot. Exactly! It makes my life easier if I don't have to count every thing I put in my mouth, but yet create wholesome meals that figure out to 30 grams per meal, or an even division for snacks. This plan gives my body the ability to shed excess pounds, in a healthy way and also fuels my body so that it is physically healthy. Most importantly, I have eliminated sugar from my diet. Sugar is found in so many other foods, the need to add more sugar is unnecessary and can even become toxic. You must have water! What? You shower and brush your teeth every day and think thats enough water? No, we are made mostly of water and our bodies must have it to function. Soda, tea, coffee, and sadly beer do not count as water selections. True water is what we need and I make sure I drink at least 64 oz. a day. A lot? Not really if you learn to drink it at the right times, it almost seems too easy. And lastly, I take a multi-vitamin, one each day to ensure that my body is getting all the vitamins and minerals it needs. If you drink 8 oz of water in the morning with a vitamin, then make sure you drink 4 oz before each meal or snack, then 8 oz. with your meal or snack that almost covers you for the day. If you think 8 oz sounds a lot and is a "trigger" word for you, think of it in measurement terms, use a 1 cup measuring cup and you will see 8 oz of water is really not a lot. Try it! |
Exercise? Doesn't lifting the glass of water count towards exercise? |
Another trigger word for me....exercise. I have never been a real go getter in the aerobics department, can't play tennis worth a damn, have 3 small children so walking is useless unless a snails pace counts towards anything, really don't have the desire to look like a body builder, and to be quite honest, since I AM a stay at home mom and do live on a budget, the gym is out of the question! So now what? Good old fashioned free exercise. I take the time in the mornings after my school age kids leave, to do something. Stomach crunches, leg lifts, stretching, toe touches and good old you must...you must...you must increase your bust exercises. I love it, and it gets my blood pumping and my mind right for the rest of the day. It takes me 30 minutes and I'm feeling good! I have lost many inches, and feel so much better about my "trouble" spots. So, no matter what it is that you enjoy, do it! Take the 30 minutes you deserve a day to keep your body healthy and in good working shape! |
And, finally the best advice I can give you is to throw out your scale and use your clothes, eyes and others compliments as your guide. The scale is not user friendly and can really sabbotage a well intentioned person. And, stop looking at the advertisements in the magazines and the celebrities on the television and thinking that you are supposed to look like that. We don't have the money or the access to the great plastic surgeons or air brush photographers that can create Us into them. They are not a reality, we are, and we are ExtraOrdinary! |
