The Cult of Kefka

Reward: Great (Gem Box)

Recommended level: 50

NOTE: You can only find the tower AFTER the "incident".

In the middle of the large, c-shaped island, you'll find a mysterious tower. It is surrounded by mountains, so you have to use the airship to get there. Know that this is a pretty hard quest, and you cannot hope to complete it unless you're at least fairly powerful.

Outside the tower, you'll find a bunch of weirdoes just walking around. It is absolutely impossible to make contact with them, and if you get in their way, they'll just walk straight through you. As a bit of a surprise, you'll find your old friend Strago walking amongst them. For more info on this, check the walkthrough.

Supposedly, there's a BIG treasure waiting for you on top of the tower, so what are you waiting for? There's also a guy who'll tell you about another treasure if you give him 100.000 gp. Don't mix up this treasure with the one on top of the tower.

Time to climb the tower. You'll find that this is a lot like what you did in Zozo earlier. Except for one little detail: Since this tower is pretty magic, you can ONLY use magic when you run into monsters. No Fight or Blitz or anything (except Item). So if your magic isn't strong, you might as well leave the tower before you get hurt. Besides, you aren't able to escape from any monsters you run into.

The "L20 Magic"-creature you see on the left is especially dangerous, since it simply reflects any magic you cast on it so you'll end up hitting yourself. To avoid this, you can equip all you characters with the relic called "Wall Ring" (You can find it in most Relic stores), which automatically casts Reflect on your characters, and it can't be dispelled. Doing so will make all the battles a great deal easier. Instead of casting your attack spells on the enemy, cast them on yourself. Just remember not to use Cure-magic on yourself because then you'll just cure your enemies.

On your way up, you'll probably notice a few doors leading into small rooms, all with a treasure chest holding items like x-potions. One of the rooms also has a very special surprise for you. A DRAGON, which you can fight if you feel like it. It has nothing to to with this quest though.

On top of the tower, there is yet another room. Inside, you'll find the final treasure. A relic called "Gem Box". It works exactly like "W-Magic" from FF7, and lets you cast two spells per round instead of one. This is truly one of the best items in the game. Before you can leave, however, you'll have to fight the boss. (Of course!) He's a powerful magic user, and he constantly changes shape, so he becomes immune to certain elements. Therefore, you might find him impossible to kill. Fortunately, you equipped all your characters with Wall Rings, so he cannot harm you at all. He'll cast Dispel on you, but he cannot remove the Reflect spell. You should just sit and wait while the boss slowly kills himself. It'll probably take a long time because he heals himself sometimes, but when you've waited long enough, he will be defeated. Before he dies, however, he'll cast the powerful spell Ultima on your party. If you, at that time, don't have a lot of HP, you're history.
