Tim Culbertson - Tuba |
![]() Tim Culbertson was born and raised in Carmel, Indiana. His life’s ambitions, in chronological order, have included garbageman, astronaut, second baseman for the Cubs, engineer, historian, professional tubist, long-distance cyclist, stay-at-home father, theoretical physicist, baker, and tuba-playing commando. He currently works as a manager at the Borders Bookstore in downtown Indianapolis. Here's a true story: Once, when Tim's family was living in Mexico, his mom couldn't open her door on the family station wagon because a mother pig was leaning against it while suckling her young. School days found Tim at Carmel High School and later at Illinois Wesleyan University, where he earned a music degree with a minor in physics. Later, as a physics student at Northern Illinois University, he tired of putting cats in boxes, and resigned from his studies. His future in the sciences remains uncertain as a matter of principle. Tim has studied tuba with Melissa Williams, Thomas Streeter and C. Judd Joyce. His current professional affiliations are with the Franklin Park Brass and Die Zaubertuben. Tim is happily married to the beautiful April Alice Culbertson; they will celebrate their second anniversary in early October. When not dodging trucks near their southside Indianapolis home, Tim enjoys reading science, history and fiction and listening to classical music. More recent interests include cooking and bridge. Tim currently enjoys a seven-month undefeated run in Franklin Park Brass basketball play. He weighs in at 210 lbs. and at 6 feet tall, he towers over other quintet members. In his spare time, Tim can be found losing things and forgetting to be somewhere.
