The most interesting game of the night was the second between Brian Willcock and Andrew Robinson. Brian had white and was smashing Andrew positionally, when, as he is wont to do, he made an unintentional queen sac for a knight. However, his position was so strong that it seemed for a while that the sacrifice was sound, with a well position knight on e5 and Black’s pieces stuck behind a pawn chain h7-g6-f7-e6, King on f8, rook on h8, queenside B-N-R undeveloped. Then after surviving about 20 tense moves, a mate in one on g2 was conceded (B+Q)… and that was that…
