Two games played tonight.
The decisive game to determine the tournament winner was won by Andrew against Harvey in a
close game. Andrew managed to secure the game in the end with 2 well placed
bishops. This gave him the first picket fence victory in a Gap tournament since
1997.
The other game provided the
unusual fare we have come to expect when James takes on George. After the game
George was flabbergasted to discover that James had once again played an
illegal move that George had not spotted. This is the second week in a
row that James has castled queenside and the king has ended up 1 square from
the corner instead of 2 – hmmm, a trend is emerging! George used his trademark
h5-h4-h3 opening (counter-Hiller variation) to its usual devastating effect.
However, the game finished closer than expected with George only up by a rook
and 3 pawns vs a rook and 1 pawn when James made the final fateful blunder.
James is improving and played well to get this far into the game…

Two games played. George managed to get past John in this 45 minute game played before his One Hour game. Doug said to Stuart after the game: “That was a good game, I enjoyed it!”. Stuart however did not appear so enthusiastic!!
