Five games were played
tonight, the most notable of which was the game that Brian should have won but
didn’t. As you will see if you play through the game, white’s 29th
move is absurd. Brian was still visibly shaken after the game, but many
onlookers were puzzled by this as we all thought he had got used to this by
now. <BW’s reply – see below>
In other games Peter got a good position early on against Tony but could not hold onto his advantage. Likewise fro Stuart who found that John could just hold on, and then Stuart ran into customary time difficulties that he faces at the end of one hour games (blitz is beyond him!). Andrew managed to overcome Marty and Gavin beat Debbie in a re-scheduled game owing to the non-shows of their opponents.
The schedule has been slightly altered for some future games:
20 June:
Debbie v James
27 June Andrew v Debbie
27 June James v Brian (BW said ‘I have been looking forward to this game all
year!’)

Quote of the night:
“Well you know how James
didn’t come tonight…”
- Peter Hiller
Some explanation needs to be
given for why such a lame quote of the night appears this week. Unfortunately,
the best we can come up with is that it there was a confluence between a full
moon and Friday the 13th, the result of which was that James and
Mike obviously has other interests to pursue (separately, we hope).
“have to protest
about standards of veracity on web-site.your correspondent lied through his
fundament.my 29th move was not my normal gracious present to a
deserving opponent. it was an xfiles move - one that I had rejected for the
reasons that would strike any peruser of the game .i had intended to move the
pawn but somehow (c.i.a. drugs?) I put my hand on the King so had to make the
damned move.any more of this tabloid nonsense and I will have to launch my
annual coup against the president, whatever sammy says..”
