Here's A List Of Rockers
(And Others)
Steve Has Chatted With

Jim Ed Brown

"The Killer" Jerry Lee Lewis
The first celebrity I ever interviewed, and if you listen to the tape it sounds like it. I probably said "ummmm" more than any other word during the interview.

Ricky Skaggs

Hank Williams Jr.
I asked Hank Jr. to record a drop for me where he'd call me a "yankee" but he refused, saying he didn't want to offend any of his "northern fans."

Wavy Gravy
Well known 60's hippie who did stage announcements at the original Woodstock. I don't think he even knew where he was during the interview.

Autograph
What was up with those outfits???

Dan Baird
Singer/gutarist for the Georgia Satellites. He had us all laughing so hard we barely got through the interview.

Black & Blue
After the interview they took me out drinking with them and these guys knew how to party! Their record rep picked up the entire night's tab, which was alot, trust me.

Brighton Rock
They gave me a great sweatshirt with their logo on it. I wonder what ever happened to it?

Xene Cervenka
Singer for the band X. She had no interest in being interviewed and was actually quite hostile.

John Doe
Singer/Bassist for the band X. John also had no interest in being interviewed.

Derick St. Holmes
Singer/Rhythm guitarist for Ted Nugent. Derick was doing a solo tour at the time I interviewed him so he didn't mind dishing the dirt on Ted.

Donnie Iris
Just a great, down-to-earth guy.

Nikki Sixx
Bassist for Motley Crue. We did the interview over the phone and I think he was gacked at the time. He talked so fast I could barely understand him.

Michael Stanley

Michael White
Remember his band, The White? My boss had a hissy-fit the day after I interviewed Michael because he said I talked to him "for way too long." We chatted for ten minutes and I played a song from his new album. Get a grip.

The Rhythm Corps
This was not a very happy phase in my life and I was drinking way too much. I showed up at the station for my seven-to-midnight shift, drunk, expecting the place to be empty. Instead, there were Richie and Greg from the Rhythm Corps along with my boss and everyone else from the station. I just stayed out of the way and tried not to breathe on anyone.

Eric Bloom
Stun Guitar/Vocals for Blue Oyster Cult. One of my guitar heros.

The Bullet Boys
The night before their show in Cleveland these guys showed up at the station and were supposed to sit in on four hours of my show, taking calls and helping pick out the tunes. Unfortunately, about 30 minutes into my show a listener called up and told them they were the biggest bunch of assholes she'd ever heard. The band left the air studio and refused to come back. We managed to get them to record some drops before they and their handler split.

Company Of Wolves

Tommy Conwell
Remember The Young Rumblers?? They did a show for our station in a bar in the basement of a hotel in Warren, Ohio. It was snowing like hell outside but the place was packed and these guys blew the roof off.

Audi Debrow
I was supposed to interview Audi then go out to lunch with him but the record rep got pulled over for speeding and they got to the station late. So late in fact that after we got on the air and Audi explained why there were so late he had to wrap up the interview so he could get to the next station where was schelduled to appear.

Rick Derringer "The All American Punk"
Ate cotton candy and drank beer while I interviewed him. It almost made me sick. He's a great guy, but watching him eat that combo....blechhh!

Bruce Dickinson
Singer for Iron Maiden. Bruce was on a promotional tour for his new album Tattooed Millionair and he had just flown in to the U.S. from England. This was the first interview he did on this promotional tour.

Bruce Dickinson
Singer for Iron Maiden. Bruce was in town on his solo Tattooed Millionair Tour. Very cool guy! Let me hang out on his tour bus and drink with him while we listened to the new Iron Maiden album that wouldn't be released for another three months.

D'Priest

Rik Emmett
Singer/Guitarist for Triumph. He was promoting his solo album.

Firehouse
While chatting with these guys backstage it turned out that one of them was from Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, a very small town in the middle of the state where I had worked for two years at a couple of small market stations. After that we got along like brothers talking about small town life.

Rob Halford
Singer for Judas Priest. And, no, he didn't make a pass at me.

Joan Jett
After I interviewed her everyone asked me if she was gay. I didn't ask her but she took a female friend of mine on the road with her for a week after her concert.
I would have watched, wouldn't you?

Tim Kelly
The late guitarist for Slaughter. Rest In Peace brother!

Kick Tracee
I don't remember too much about interviewing these guys or their show so I must have had one hell of a good time

Jan Kuehnem
Lead Guitarist for Vixen. By the time she sat down to be interviewed, Jan wasn't in the best of moods because every guy at the station had wanted to pose for a pic with their arms around her, going for a cheap feel. She also didn't like the fact that I leered at her throughout the interview and dropped hints that I wanted to take her out drinking so I could take advantage of her.

Michael Lardi
Keyboards for Great White.

Lillian Axe

Mandy Lion
Singer for World War III. Mandy and I got stuck in a tiny upstairs office at the club they were playing for our interview. We should have done it downstairs in the club because the place was sold-out. WWIII put on one of the best live shows Youngstown had ever seen. Ask Mandy about his hat sometime, it's a good story.

Lord Tracy

Ricky Medlock
Singer/Guitarist for Blackfoot. Ricky was passing through Youngstown so he stopped in to the station and naturally I put him on the air and did an interview with him. The next day, my boss reamed me a new one for not calling him first to ask permission.

Eddie Money
My boss hadn't bothered to tell me that Eddie was coming in for an interview so when I heard someone pounding on the back door of the station I asked who it was, since there was no window in the door. When he told me it was Eddie Money I didn't believe him and it took several minutes before I was convinced enough to open the door.

Aldo Nova

Chare Pederson
Bassist for Vixen. Chare came in with bandmate Jan for the interview. Chare was cute but everyone wanted Jan. I think she was almost glad.

Mark Slaughter
Singer for Slaughter. I interviewed him long distance on his cell phone while he was driving around Las Vegas.

Dee Snyder
Singer for Twisted Sister

Steelheart

Trixter

Angus Young
Lead Guitarist for AC/DC.

Brian Vander Ark
Guitarist for The Verve Pipe.

Asphalt Ballet
The night these guys played at the Newport in Columbus there was a blizzard going on and only about 30 people showed up for the gig in a hall that held 1,400 people. The band brought all their booze out from backstage and shared it with the audience. That was pretty cool, but the club owner was pissed because no one was buying drinks. After the show we all took them out drinking at a club called the Park Avenue.

Beavis & Butthead
I totally screwed up the interview because I couldn't keep from laughing the entire time.

Blackfish
Biggest bunch of assholes I've ever met in my life.

Jason Bonham
Drummer for Bonham. Jason and I spent most of the interview talking about Monty Python and The Young Ones

Brother Cain

Circus Of Power

Gilby Clarke

Alice Cooper

Corrosion Of Conformity

Peter Criss
This wasn't much of an interview because it was so short. Pete's manager told me that a few days earlier some crazoid had pulled a knife on Pete at the lobby of their hotel and he'd been a raging paranoid ever since. He didn't wany anyone outside of his immediate circle getting too close.

Cry Of Love

Glen Danzig
Singer for Danzig. Glen was making an appearance at a local comic book store and we figured that would be a good place to interview him. His bus finally showed up a half hour late and it was another half hour before he finally came in to the store. He'd been awake three minutes when I interviewed him and he wasn't in a very good mood

Chris DeGarmo
Lead Guitarist for Queensryche. Just an all-around great guy.

Ronnie James Dio
A class act all the way. A true professional. The best front man in rock & roll.

Jessie James Dupree
Singer/Chainsaw for Jackyl. Jessie is always a great interview because he's always in a good mood and after you ask him how he is he pretty much interviews himself.

Ace Frehley
Lead Guitarist for Kiss. Interviewed him on my birthday in 1993. Best present I could ever have asked for.

Great White

Gary Hoey

Tony Iommi
Guitarist for Black Sabbath. My personal guitar god.

Eddie Jackson
Bassist for Queensryche. Queensryche was in town and I was broadcasting from in front of Polaris Amphitheatre in Columbus, Ohio, when Eddie rode up on his mountain bike. I asked for an interview and he told me he'd do it if we let him drive our station vehicle, a Hummer, since he'd always wanted to drive one. The Assistant Promotions Director said he couldn't because he wasn't covered under our insurance but I talked him into it. He took off into the woods and didn't come back for about twenty minutes. Then we had a nice long talk.

Tim Kelly
The late guitarist for Slaughter. Tim was a class act all the way, and a man we lost way too soon. Rest In Peace my friend

Jani Lane
Singer for Warrant. Jani was sufffering with a massive hangover when I interviewed him. He couldn't wait to get back to his hotel room so he could resume drinking.

Live
Worst interview of my career. My boss gave me absolutely no advance warning that they were coming to the station. I had to grab some stuff out of the bio files we kept in the studio and literally asked questions as I read it.
Thanks Hal, I owe you one!

George Lynch
Guitarist for Dokken.

Yngwie Malmsteen
I was expecting him to be a total asshole but he turned out to be a very cool guy.

Ricky Medlock
Singer/Guitarist for Blackfoot.

Vince Neil
Vince was on a solo tour at the time.

John Petrucci
Guitarist for Dream Theatre. When I asked him how long it took the band to record an eight minute song he told me, "Eight minutes."

Robert Plant
Before the interview Robert's manager told me not to ask him any questions about Led Zeppelin. Naturally, I ignored him and asked anyway. Robert got pissed off and accused me of asking "stupid questions." His manager told me later this was the longest interview Robert had ever done with a disc jockey.

Quiet Riot
Four of the most hyper-active men I'd ever met. None of them could sit still during the interview.

Rick Savage
Bassist for Def Leppard.

Savatage

Michael Schenker
Guitarist for Scorpions. Tried out my german on him and didn't do too bad

Slamin' Gladys

Southgang

Sponge
Turned out we were all G.G. Allen fans so we got along great

Spread Eagle

Testament

Tuff

Lars Ulrich
Drummer for Metallica. I interviewed him before he went wacko over that Napster stuff.

Wildside

Kip Winger
Singer/Bassist for Winger. Kip tried to pick my wife up at a station event we were hosting before Winger's show that night. It's a pretty funny story if you want to hear it some time.

XYZ

CC DeVille
CC was a great interview. He's always in a good mood.

Dokken

Jimmy Dillon
At the time, KSHE was playing alot of blues crap and Jimmy was one of the artists we were playing way too much. During the interview, the Music Director decided I wasn't doing very well so he grabbed the extra microphone and took over the interview. He told me later I should have been better prepared for the interview. I told him we shouldn't be playing crap like that on a rock station.

Bret Michaels

Vince Neil
Vince wasn't in a very good mood the day I interviewed him and he really wasn't in the mood to talk.

Traci Gunns
We were broadcasting from just inside the main gate at Blossom Music Center when Traci pulled up on a golf cart and asked if we could do an interview. It was cold, windy and raining but he stuck it out and hung out for about a half hour before he headed back to the pavillion to warm up.

Ann Wilson
Singer for Heart. Ann was having some throat problems the day I interviewed her so I tried to keep it short because she wanted to rest her throat before their show that night.

Greg Allman
Great interview, great guy.

Zakk Wylde
Great interview...great guy. But he did get a bit peeved when I started asking about the origin of his stage name. I changed the subject and he chilled right out.

Rick Nielsen
Rick called from Illinois to talk about Cheap Trick's new album. He had a pretty bad sinus infection so I tried to keep the interview short because I could tell he wanted to get off the phone.

Nancy Wilson
I told her about how I met her back in 1980 when I was going to broadcasting school and she actually remembered that day. What a sweetheart!

Peter Frampton
Very cool guy. We talked about his appearance on The Simpsons

Ricky Medlock
Everywhere I go I run into Ricky

James "JY" Young
I've interviewed James at least three times since I started working for WONE

Tommy Shaw
Another very cool guy
