The Gatekeeper Worked Other Jobs.....
Lots Of Other Jobs.
Here's A List Of Some Of Them...

Right around the ages of seven and eight Steve and his friends from their neighborhood would cut grass in the Summer, rake leaves in the Fall, and shovel snow in the Winter to make money. Steve actually mowed lawns and shoveled snow to make money right through his Junior year in High School.

Steve's father was an Ohio History teacher at a junior high school in Akron, Ohio. At that time, teachers did not receive paychecks during the three-months of summer vacation, so he painted houses to make money over the summer. When Steve was ten his father put him to work as a gofer. Steve worked on and off as a painter untill 1998.

About the time he was 11 Steve opened "The Hot Dog Shop" in his parent's garage during summer vacation. With the help of two of his friends from the neighborhood they sold hot dogs, chips and Kool-Aid. The Hot Dog Shop was open during summer vacation for three straight years.

In June of 1976 Steve got his first "real" job. Working fourty hours a week for the Tuffy Pad Company (pictured above) for two dollars an hour. That probably doesn't sound like much, but in 1976 $80 a week for a 16 year-old was righteous bucks.

About two months before graduating high school, Steve got a job making pizzas for Parassons's Resturant in the North Hill section of Akron, Ohio. Going to school all day and working all night didn't leave alot of free time.

After he tired of working for Parrason's Steve took a job with Linden-Mills Enterprises, a custodial company in Akron, Ohio. Steve was hired to work as a carpet cleaner but after a week he was re-assigned to a custodial position at a downtown medical building. He stayed on for about two months before quitting.

After quitting his job as a janitor, one of Steve's friends got him a job at the Parasson's in Stow, Ohio. Steve became the head pizza cook on the day shift for about a year-and-a-half before his boss fired him for refusing to work off the clock.

In January of 1979 Steve went to work for City Machine & Wheel in Stow, Ohio. Steve spent the next year-and-a-half working 40 hours a week running various machines while trying to keep his sanity.

To supplement his income, during the summer of 1981 Steve worked on the grounds maintenance crew at Blossom Music Center, cleaning up the lawn in front of the pavillion and parking lots after concerts.

During the Winter of 1981-1982, Steve worked on the clean-up crew at the Ritchfield Coliseum (above) to supplement his income.

In the early 80's Steve created a comic strip called Falls Ffolks. He'd hoped to have it bought and published by one of the "underground" rock publications in Northeast Ohio, but it never happened. If you'd like to see some of the strips click here: Falls Ffolks

During the summer of 1983, Steve worked at WKNT from 5:00pm - 9:30pm when the station had to sign off, and during the day he worked grounds maintenance at Blossom Music Center. He'd work at Blossom until 4:00pm then rush home, shower and head out to work at WKNT. He kept up this routine until just a few days before he moved to Lock Haven, PA, to begin working for WCNM.
