Christopher Tresh was wandering around the White House, bored, as usual. He thought of his home back in Tennessee. His old friends, his school. He missed having a normal life. At first, going to the White House was a wonderful and exciting experience. But now, at was the beginning of his mothers second term, it wasn’t such a great deal. He spent most of his time exploring the White House (although he knew it quiet well by now) and reading about things past families did in the white house.

Rick, one of the secret service agents, came around the corner. Chris tried to turn around and pretend he hadn’t seen him but it was of no use. Chris found these agents to be quite a nuisance and didn’t see why they needed so much protection.

“Your mother wants to see you. Now.”

With a sigh, he went to the Oval Office where he found his mother, sitting still at her desk. Her face was pale; Chris could tell something was up.

“Mom? You wanted to see me?” he got no response, “Mom?”

“Oh! “ she jerked up as though coming out of a daze, “sorry dear. What were you saying?”

“You wanted to see me?”

“Oh, yes, of course, sit down.” She stirred and sipped her tea as her only son obeyed. “Something very serious is about to happen. Something that will change our lives forever.” She took a deep breath and continued, “an asteroid is coming towards Earth. Its name is Goliath, because it’s the biggest asteroid ever seen by our astrologers. Nothing can change its course. It will hit earth.”

Christopher was silent. He didn’t know what to make of this. He had no idea how this would affect him. Seeing that he didn’t understand, she tried again,

“Honey, we’re talking about a rock that’s larger than the entire country.” Now he understood.

He looked around franticly then at his feet, he became still and whispered, “So we’re all gonna die?” Tears came to his eyes.

“We have one chance.”
