The Glitter Band started life as backing and session musicians for the Glam Godfather “Gary Glitter”, providing the backing music not only for Gary’s chartbusters but also providing ‘The Leader’ with the most powerful and gutsy ‘Glitter Music’ for his live concerts around the world.

Gerry Shephard (lead guitar and vocals), Pete Phipps (Drums and Keyboards), John Springate (Bass & Vocals), John Rossall (Sax, Trombone & Musical Director), Tony Leonard (Drums), and Harvey Ellison (sax) were soon to outgrow being a backing band. It was during 1973 that they approached producer Mike Leander and requested that they have a shot at fame themselves. He agreed and booked them some studio time at the top recording studio of the time ‘Mayfair’. The Band all had ideas for what songs they could do, but mainly it was thought that they would try their hands at writing some original material. At Mayfair the band recorded three tracks, ‘You Wouldn’t Leave Me Would You’, ‘Teenager In Love’ and ‘Everybody’s Dancing’.
