One of the pristine, desolate fishing spots we visit on the Tyee Tour in Laredo Sound. The scenery is spectacular and lushness of sea life exceptional. |

My cousin Scott Dean joined the tour with Phil Walton. Scott was a rookie to the Tyee Tour but a particularly proficient & keen angler nonetheless. Scott did a superb job maneuvering the boat and netting this 27lb Chinook whilst I wrestled to free it from Kelp and other hazards during the fight.
On our journey we sometimes come upon areas where numerous sport fishing lodges exist. The usual bedlam of a dozen or more “Chowderhead” boats in a trolling carousel hogging a position is a little more than the Good Ol’ Boys will tolerate. We prefer un-harassed fishing, and for that reason we seek our quarry in more exclusive localities exempt of the occasionally arrogant fishing guide and dilettante tourists. As most of our best fisheries are on the Tyee Tour, "all to our selves" & "limited out", this spot was such a place providing Scott, Phil & myself with an outstanding afternoons entertainment among feisty Chinook & prize size Coho. This scene is very typical of the British Columbia coast. Thousands of desolate little windswept rocks & islands covered with dense vegetation above water and flourishing sea life below. This one is in the McMullin Group in Queens Sound. Goose Island in background. |
