JH. at his finest!
This is the man that truly began the precedent of sport fishing on board The Good Ol’ Boys, and is well known to many former Tyee Tourists, John Hangodi. Although I’d been exposed to salmon fishing since a child through my Father, (by “Mooching” with live herring), I credit John for turning me onto the ultra simplified method of “Jigging” with a lure. When I met John in 1987 he had years of experience working as a fishing guide in Knight Inlet where jigging was their standard method. John is a remarkably keen and proficient sportsman, not to mention an exceptional host and entertainer, with many laughs always being had on any outing with him. John now lives in Carins Australia with his family, where he operates a successful fishing charter business. On our return home Art and I met up with John in his old hometown of Campbell River where he was visiting. Seen here with his family, wife Tracy, sons John Jr. & Matthew.

This is the old limestone quarry on Texada Island where we spent an afternoon on the start of our trip North. Tyler, Kevin & I organized Billy Hourston & family, Tyler’s sister Renee and her husband Steve Rechtschaffner and family, to follow us from their respective summer cottages on the Sunshine Coast,  with their boats for a picnic here. A friendly Texada local kindly lent our troop his vehicles to get to the quarry, a 2 mile drive from Vananda Bay. This is a spectacular spot with clear, warm, freshwater, cliffs, inlets and islands.
