The landing beach for access to the pit houses was stunning with protection from wind and a gradually shallowing sandy bottom right to the head. At one end of the beach was a fresh water spring. We also found several sets of fresh Wolf tracks in the sand. |

On Princess Royal Island, Brent McHugh, Lee Uhrich & Paul beached the boat to go ashore to explore an ancient First Nations pit house. The site is a four sided dug out pit with terraces and a log arch at either end. |

|
The arches would have likely formed a frame to which cedar planks would be attached to create a shelter. There were several trees which have grown out of the pit since it was abandoned. |
