When the wave strikes its victim, the evil in his heart expands and causes his heart to explode. Of course, the victim then must have some evil in his heart for the attack to work. Bakuhatsuha: By raising two fingers, the user of this attack can create a large explosion that will totally decimate the surrounding area or the ground under an opponent. Bakurikimaha: An ultimate ki attack, this is is an extremely powerful ki blast shot from one hand, the other gripping the shooting hand's wrist for support. Barrier: This purely defensive technique forms a Ki-shield around the body that protects the user from Ki or similar attacks. There are two forms of this maneuver. One is a spherical shield that surrounds the body, the other is more of a coating of the body. Big Bang Attack: Big Bang attack is a huge ki bolt of incredible destructive power. The person holds one flat palm forward towards his enemy and launches the bolt. Body Change: This technique is used by the leader of the Ginyu-tokusentai, Ginyu. Ginyu spreads his limbs out, shouts "Change!" and shoots out a bolt of energy, and if it hits its target, Ginyu changes bodies with that person. Ginyu then gains the strength and speed of his target, but not his special techniques or ki. After changing bodies, Ginyu can still do a Body Change. Ginyu will change bodies with the first person to hit his change beam, and thus if someone gets in the way of his intended target, Ginyu will change bodies with that person instead. Bukujutsu: The ability to fly with one's ki. Burning Attack: A powerful energy blast shot from both hands. It is done when holding both hands forward, while doing some strange arm moves, and then put both hands forward again, index fingers and thumbs touching. Then release the blast. Chou Kame Hame Ha: "Ultimate" Kamehame-ha. Gokou uses it first while facing Piccolo in volume 16. Chobakuretsumaha: Done when you power up the blast between the palms of the hands in front of his chest, then releases the blast. Chonoryoku: A very unique technique done when both hands, or a single hand are put forward which can manipulate the bodily movements of his opponent to an extent, providing that the opponent is not too powerful. The person can stop someone's movements or cause internal pain with this technique. Crasher Ball: The Crasher Ball is a ki-ball that is produced from the palm of the hand. Daichiretsuzan: With a swipe of the hand with two fingers extended, it creates an invisible cutting beam that goes a long way. Death Ball: This is a small ball of energy which can be created from either the tip of the finger or with both hands. Dodonpa: A blast shot from one finger, which explodes upon impact. Double Tsuihikidan: It shoots a Kamehameha-like blast from each hand, and can be guided towards the enemy. Dynamite Kick: A charging kick. Energy Kyushu: It absorbs energy, either from people's bodies or their ki blasts, through the holes in the palms of their hands. Eraser Cannon: It is a large, powerful Ki blast shot from the mouth, and can destroy in a very large radius from where it hits. Eye Beam: It is basically a double ki blast shot from the eyes. Freeza Beam: A beam of energy shot from one finger. Fusion: This technique is used to fuse two people into a single person, and give the fused person a huge power boost. Anyone can do the Fusion, but you have the same power as whoever you fuse with, and you must learn the correct pose and form. It's easy to make a mistake and fuse into something far weaker though. The Fusion lasts for 30 minutes before the fused person becomes two again. Fusenko: You draw in your breath while falling down, puffing yourself up and slowing your fall.Galactica Donut: It is a ring of ki energy that Gotenks can control to change size of the diameter of the donut. The Donut can be used to surround the enemy and trap him by holding his limbs with the donut. Galick-Ho: You power up the blast like the Kamehameha, but when you release the blast, your hands are both palm-forward. Gekitotsu Buu Buu Volleyball: After trapping someone with Renzoku Super Donuts, you beat the ball around a bit before spiking it really hard into the earth. Genki Dama: A large ball of energy gathered from nature, humans, etc., which lend you their energy. Guruguru Gum: You spit up a strange sticky substance at your opponent. The Gum then wraps around the victim, inhibiting his movement. Haikyuken: You treat your opponent like a volleyball and hit them around volleyball style. Hankokubikkurisho: It shoots a Ki blast forward using both hands and traps his victim in a shocking field of energy from which the opponent cannot escape. Haretsu no Maho: A magic spell used to make people explode. Hasshuken: When you move your arms fast enough so there are like eight, and you attack with all eight at once. Hell's Flash: Fires a powerful blast from cannons under your wrists. Honoo: A powerful breath of fire. Jan-Ken Punch: A Japanese game identical to that of "Rock, Paper, Scissors." Goku then has three different types of Jan-Ken Punches. Genocide Attack: A series of Ki blasts shot into the air, which seek their targets upon being fired. Kaioken: This is primarily a power-up move. When Goku uses this technique, he flares up and gains a large boost to his speed and power. Goku can also use multiplied power to his Kaioken. Kakusandan: Shoots a blast from each hand. Then control the blasts so that they merge and then directs it above the heads of the enemies. Thereupon split the blast again into many smaller Ki bolts which rain down upon the enemies. Kakusanyudokodan: Fires many Ki bolts around the opponent, surrounding them, then controls the bolts so they all shoot toward their target. Kamehameha: It is a Ki blast, which to start is charged up held behind the firer in cupped hands, then brought forward to release a large blast of energy. Kiai: This technique is used simply by yelling really loud which disperses weaker Ki attacks. Kiaiho: An invisible force attack that knocks one's opponent back. It can be shot either from an open palm or from the eyes. Kienzan: It is a flat, disc-shaped Ki blast, which can be used to slice through its target with deadly accuracy. Kikoho: You put the tips of your fingers of both hands together, forming kind of an "O" between his fingers and his thumbs. Then you shoot a very powerful Ki blast through the "O" at his opponent. Ki No Tsurugi: A Ki beam that shoots out somewhat as an extention of the hand and can be swung and stabbed to cut or pierce enemies. Koshoku: You can eat light using this technique Kyodaika: It lets you grow your body to a huge size, making the range and strength of your blows much more effective. Kyoken: You act like a mad dog, barking and charging at your enemy to scare him, then jump over him and kick him from behind. Mafuba: It is a swirling blast of energy shot at the intended demon. Once caught in the blast, the blast is directed into a jar, bottle, or other imprisonment container, thus imprisoning said demon. However, if the container is opened, whoever is trapped inside will be freed. Makankosappo: A penatrating blast shot from two fingers. It is actually two blasts, one going straight ahead and the other coiling around the first for drilling power. This attack drills through everything it hits, and eventually blows up when it hits something big enough. Makosen: It gathers Ki into both of your arms, then fires a blast from each one after the other. Masenko: It powers up a blast over your head with both of yout hands, one palm behind the other, then you bring your hands down in front of you to fire the blast. Mystic Attack: Using the Namek ability to extend their arms, Nameks extends their arm at the enemy from a distance, thus surprising them. Papparapar: This is a magic spell used to teleport people in Babidi's spaceship. Rogafufuken: Preparing yourself in a special stance, attacks with many "claw-like" punches and kicks, finishing off with a double-fisted "claw-punch." Rolling Satan Punch: Satan curls up into a ball, rolls along the ground, then punches his opponent. Renzoku Energy Dan: The user of this technique can shoot Ki bolts continuously from their hands, resulting in somewhat of a "machine-gun ki blast" effect. Renzoku Shine: This is Gotenks' adaptation of the Renzoku Energy Dan technique. Rikum Kick: A charging knee blow. Rikum Mahha Attack: A charging punch. Saiko No Kogeki: A Ki blast that is shot out of the mouth. Saimin Nno Jutsu: Used to hypnotize someone and affect his or her mind. Saruken: a distract and avoid technique. Satan Special Ultra Super Megaton Punch: Really just a normal punch. Sekikatsuba: The person's saliva will turn whatever it hits to stone. Shishin No Ken: This technique is used to split a person into four different parts. Each person created is not just an image like that created with the Zanzoken, but can fight and be attacked. The only problem with the Shishin No Ken move is that each person has only has a quarter of the power and the speed than if there was only one. Shiyoken: It sprouts out an extra set of arms from the shoulders. Shogekiha: Is an invisible blast shot from the eyes or hand. Shunkanido: The user places two fingers on his forehead, searches for a Ki he wants to go to, then when he finds it, can teleport there. Sokidan: This is a round energy ball shot from the palm of the hand. Suiken: The person acts drunk and wobbles around. Thereby, he confuses his opponent, and hits them when they are off guard. Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack: It spits out a ghost-like form closely resembling the person. The ghostlike form has a mind of its own, and when it hits anything, it explodes, severely damaging whatever is caught in the blast. Taiyoken: The user puts his hands in front of his face, says "Taiyoken," and lights up very bright, so much that he blinds his opponent. Tenkubekejiken: The user of this technique jumps high in the air, then on the way down, face forward with his arms in an "X" position, landing on his opponent with the arm "X." Time stop: This is an attack when used freezes time for his opponents so that they are frozen in whatever position they were in. Tsuihidan: It is a Ki blast, and it tracks its enemy. Udebunrikogeki: The user of this technique pulls a piece off of his body and controls it to attack his opponent in some way. Yoikominminken: It is a hypnosis technique used to put people into a deep sleep, by using a strange voice and hand motions. Yokaieki: This is a technique used by the Saibaimen. They split their head in two and shoot a stream of acid from it, which is very dangerous if it hits its target. Zanzoken: The user can move so fast he leaves an after-image, while attacking from another standpoint. |
We hope that this list will eventually contain every attack ever used in all of Dragon Ball Z, but for now, it's only got the most often used ones, most well known ones, and my personal favorite ones. If an attack name is also a link, it leads to a picture of the attack. I'll warn you right now, some of the pictures of the attacks are not very good, but I got the best ones I could for this. I'm sorry, but you'll just have to live with it. If something doesn't have a picture now, you can be sure it will eventually, hopefully soon. Big Bang Attack - This is a powerful attack in which the user stretches out their arm, charges for a few moments, then fires the blast - and when it hits, it makes a big bang. The picture isn't much help, as it's a head-on view of the attack, but it looks sort of like a comet. The attack is first used by Vegeta after he turns Super Saiya-jin in the fight against Artificial Human 19, and...well, after the attack, 19 was in quite a few pieces. As Vegeta performs the attack for the first time, he calls it Super Vegeta's Big Bang Attack. Used by: Vegeta Buku Jutsu - Well, this is the most popular technique in the world of Dragon Ball. Buku Jutsu is flight, and almost everyone uses it. The user simply concentrates their ki and floats on it. As you get more experienced, you can fly faster, and when you fly at really high speeds, you get an aura around you. It's presumed this aura sort of protects you, considering the high wind that would be constantly hitting you at such high speeds. It is used by almost anyone in the entire series who can fly, besides Artificial Humans, who don't have ki. Used by: Son Goku, Son Gohan, Son Goten, Piccolo, Kami, Yamucha, Tenshinhan, Chaouzu, Kuririn, Chibi Trunks, Mirai Trunks, Vegeta, Nappa, Raditsu, Zarbon, Dodoria, some of Freezer's henchmen, most Nameks, Nail, Dende, Freezer, Rikumu, Bata, Jiisu, Ginyu, Cell, Cell Jr.'s, Yam, Supopobichi, Darbura, Fat Buu, evil Buu, Kid Buu, Ubuu, Videl, and any other non-machine that can fly Final Flash - Vegeta's second most powerful attack, it's similiar to a Kamehameha in some ways. Vegeta's wrists go together, then he holds his arms straight out in front of him, charges up, and a huge yellow blast flies towards his opponent. The attack's debut would have killed Perfect Cell if not for Cell's ability to regen. Used by: Vegeta Fusion - Fusion is performed by doing a short dance (creative name, it's called the Fusion Dance) with someone of your size and power, and while doing it, yelling "FUUUU-SION HA!" It only lasts for 30 minutes though, and after it wears off, the two fighters must wait another hour before they can fuse again. If the Fusion is performed incorrectly, a "mis-fusion" is the result (Fat Gogeta). The technique was taught to Goku by the Metamoru-jin. Used by: Goku, Vegeta, Goten, Chibi Trunks Genki Dama - Otherwise known as a Spirit Bomb in America, this is THE most powerful move in all of Dragon Ball. It nearly kills Vegeta and Freezer, and actually does kill Majin Buu. On the GT side of things, Ii-Shenron is also killed by a giant Genki Dama formed with the life energy of beings across the universe. It was taught to Goku by Kaiousama, and the attack is performed when the user spreads their arms and gathers the energy from every being on the planet, in the system, etc. When the Dama is complete, the user can throw the ball at will. It's usually held in your hand, but later in the series, they get so big that they have to form elsewhere. Freezer's Genki Dama forms in outer space, for example. The attack is so powerful that if used incorrectly, it would destroy the entire planet. It can only be performed by those with a pure heart, so the attack cannot be performed while a person is in Super Saiya-jin, as their heart is impure during that time. Used by: Son Goku Kaio-ken - Ok, I know. This is odd... I spell this one Kaio-ken, but I say Kaiousama. The truth is, the Kaio-ken is named after Kaiousama, and literally means "Kaiou Fist." It doubles the user's strength, speed, vision, etc., and can be upgraded several times. When Goku uses it against Vegeta, he gets it up to level 4, and against Freezer, he constantly uses it at level 10, and eventually upgrades it to level 20. There really is no set way to perform this, although you usually sort of hunch over a little and bend your knees, then scream the attack name. This is typically how it's performed, but it doesn't have to be done this way, as it has been used in midair and just standing in other positions on the ground. Obsolete after Goku becomes a Super Saiya-jin. Used by: Son Goku Kamehameha - The most popular move in all of Dragon Ball, this attack is performed by putting your wrists together, then putting them at your side and forming a ball of energy in your hands (one-handed Kamehameha's have been done before, though). Of course, it's always accompanied by the name of the attack, usually yelled slowly. The beam is always blue (or at least I have yet to see one that's not), and if you ever see one called a Kamehameha that's not blue, it was most likely a mistranslation. The attack isn't the most powerful in the series, but it's good enough to defeat Cell. Used by: Son Goku, Son Gohan, Kamesennin, Kuririn, Yamucha, Cell, Majin Buu Kienzan - Known as the Destructo Disk in America, this is a disk of pure energy, able to slice through almost anything. It's great for low power fighters, as they can fight stronger opponents with this attack. Loses most importance later on, when the fighters get strong enough to withstand it. It hits Perfect Cell in the back of the head and does no damage, and Super Gohan 2 catches two of them and smashes them together with no trouble. To create the Kienzan, the user just puts their hand above their head, palm up and form the disk. The trouble with this attack is that it nearly always misses, but Freezer finds a way around that, creating a modified Kienzan that follows the opponent. He sends a few of these at Goku, but after Goku dodges them a few times and the fight progresses a little more, they both forget about them, and one eventually hits Freezer from behind, slicing him cleanly into a few pieces. Used by: Kuririn, Cell, Freezer Kikohou - Tenshinhan's best move, the Kikohou is still in use far into the series. It does a good job of pissing off Cell for a while, when Tenshinhan allowed the Artificial Humans to escape before 18 could be absorbed, and it also saves Gohan's life by knocking one of Majin Buu's blasts away. The Kikohou is formed when the user puts their hands together in front of them, forming a triangle, and firing the blast. If done incorrectly, the Kikohou could kill both the target and the attacker, so it's to be used sparingly. The Kikohou shows up as early as Tenshinhan vs. Goku at the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai, and it lasts until the end of DBZ, when it's used against Majin Buu. Used by: Tenshinhan Makkankousappo - The most powerful attack at the beginning of Dragon Ball Z, this attack quickly lost its importance as soon as it finished killing Raditsu and Goku. The name means Screw Beam of the Devil, and as you may have guessed, it's used by Piccolo. As you may have also guessed, the beam looks like a screw. It's a straight beam, with a corkscrew around it, and is performed by raising your two forefingers to your forehead, charging up, and then firing from those fingers. As was already mentioned, it's used to kill Raditz, but even as early as the fight against Nappa, it really has no effect. Cell also fields this attack, not even needing to block it when Piccolo fires it at him. The technique is known as Special Beam Cannon in the United States. Used by: Piccolo, Cell Masenkou - This attack is used a few times in the fight against Freezer, and nearly kills Freezer in his 3rd form. It's always a yellow color (at least that I've seen), and is performed with either one or two hands. The user can shoot from both hands just straight out, or from one hand, with the other hand holding the wrist of the performing arm. Not especially effective around the beginning of the series, and not often seen at the end, but it's a good attack during the Freezer saga at least. Used by: Son Gohan, Piccolo, Mirai Trunks (only in the Trunks TV Special) Shunkan Idou - Literally meaning "Instantaneous Movement," Shunkan Idou is a teleportation technique that the Yardratto-jin know. To perform it, you simply raise your two forefingers to your forehead, lock onto a ki somewhere that you want to teleport to, and then go. In order to use Shunkan Idou, the user must lock onto a ki in the area, or it can't be performed. The Kaioushins and Kibit also know a form of Shunkan Idou, but rather than locking onto ki, they can teleport to anywhere within their influence. Used by: Son Goku, Cell, Other forms used by: Kaioushin, Kibit Super Saiya-jin - Ok, even if you're a dub fan, you most likely know what this is. The Super Saiya-jin (or Super Saiyan) is the massive power up that can be attained by Saiya-jin. In order to reach Super Saiya-jin, you must be a Saiya-jin with a pure heart, and you must be extremely powerful. Goku's fighting power around the time of the Ginyu battle was enough to give him Super Saiya-jin potential, and he later did reach Super Saiya-jin. Besides these requirements, there's one last step to actually becoming a Super Saiya-jin - extreme rage. For Son Goku, it was the death of his friend and threats on Gohan's life, for Vegeta, it was his own limits, and for Mirai Trunks, it was Son Gohan's death (at least in the anime). Almost every Saiya-jin in the series reaches this stage. In Super Saiya-jin form, your hair goes straight up, or at least up and out in some way, turns gold, and your eyes turn green/turquoise. Any fighting aura you may have had is now gold, rather than the previous color you'd get. As far as I know, there's no set boost in power you'll receive from turning Super Saiya-jin, but we do know that Son Goku went from 300,000 to 15 million the first time he turned Super Saiya-jin, and that just happens to be an increase of 50x his normal level. Used by: Son Goku, Son Gohan, Son Goten, Mirai Trunks, Chibi Trunks, Vegeta, Gotenks, Vegetto, Gogeta Ultimate Super Saiya-jin Stage 2 - This is a power up from Super Saiya-jin, not really Super Saiya-jin, but not Super Saiya-jin 2. It's not used much, but when people say something along the lines of, "He's surpassed Super Saiya-jin" they generally mean this form. It's used prior to the Cell Game, but is not used much after that. Used by: Son Goku, Vegeta, Mirai Trunks, Gohan (I believe Gohan reaches this form for a few minutes at the Cell Game, just before reaching Super Saiya-jin 2). Ultimate Super Saiya-jin Stage 3 - This is only used once, when Trunks fights Cell (the fight where Cell first tells Trunks about the Cell Game). Trunks bulks up big time, his muscles increase in size about one thousand fold (well, not literally). It's really slow moving though, the only downside. Still, there's no denying the fact that Trunks looks really cool in this form. Used by: Son Goku, Mirai Trunks Super Saiya-jin 2 - The second level of Super Saiya-jin, this is beyond the Ultimate Super Saiya-jin levels. Fighting power rises immensely, and unlike Ultimate Super Saiya-jin Stage 3, speed goes with it. Gohan was the first to reach this level at the Cell Game, and after that, Cell just couldn't compete until he came back as Super Perfect Cell. Used by: Son Goku, Son Gohan, Vegeta, Gotenks Super Saiya-jin 3 - This is the strongest form of Super Saiya-jin, but it uses up your power incredibly fast. It's not a good form to fight in for this reason, although at Full Power Super Saiya-jin 3, Son Goku would have most likely been able to defeat Majin Buu. Even if this form isn't suitable for fighting though, it looks cool. The hair grows really long, down to about the person's waist, and I believe it also solidifies. The whole deal with hair and eye colors takes place, and the Saiya-jin's eyebrows disappear. Used by: Son Goku, Gotenks Legendary Super Saiya-jin - This is from the movies only, and it's a little different from the above Super Saiya-jin. The Legendary Super Saiya-jin was Brolly, and he was created for one reason - to fill a plot hole. The Legendary Super Saiya-jin was supposed to come around only once ever 1000 years, but then all Saiya-jin in the Z Senshi except for Pan and Bra (and they're not really Z Senshi) reached it. To right this, Brolly was created. Unlike Son Goku and the rest, Brolly was already a Super Saiya-jin the day he was born. That's not to say that he was born with golden hair and all the rest, but on the day of his birth, his fighting power was 10,000. More about Brolly will be explained in his bio, but you've got all the info on the Legendary Super Saiya-jin, now. Used by: Brolly Taiyo-ken - Tenshinhan's greatest non-attack battle technique ever created, it's useable by many of the Z Senshi. The user raises both hands to their face and reflect the sun's light into their opponent's eyes, temporarily blinding them. Saves quite a few lives throughout the series, allowing a fighter in trouble to escape. Used by: Tenshinhan, Kuririn, Son Goku, Cell Ultimate Final Skill - This is the suicide attack Vegeta uses to kill Majin Buu. He uses his own life as the source of energy, causing an enormous and powerful explosion that goes on for almost a mile. After the attack finishes, Vegeta's a stone, hovering in the sky above the crater. The stone Vegeta sits in the air for a while, completely still, then crashes to the ground, shattering on impact. Unfortunately for him, Majin Buu regened and was perfectly fine after the attack finished. Used by: Vegeta |
