Buford's character easily becomes a favorite. A sheriff who chases the Bandit from his state Texas to Atlanta to try and catch him. His son, Jr., accompaines him through all the 3 movies. This wild chase started when "Frog", Bandits girlfriend, left out on his son's wedding before marrying .Buford decided to go after her, she tagged along w/ Bandit. Buford thinks he kiddnapped her, and so on, and so on. The wild chase begins. His remarkes are enough to make you laugh. And to me, the favorite parts of the smokey and bandit movies are when he comes out. His role in the 1st movie is just chasing the bandit, and what Carrie (frog), did when she left out, and cuseing the hell out of the other police officers. On the 2nd film, Buford tries to catch the bandit again. But his character was humilated alot. BADLY! In the last role, he is retired, but that is another story, as he has to make a delivery to get some cash. A challenge by the Enis bros. It was not beer, not an pregnant elephant, but instead a big plastic fish. It had to be put on the roof of his police car and had to stay up on there or the bet would be off. Part 3 is surely Buford's movie. RARE FACT: Gleason was to play both smokey and the .."pursuie". When preview audiences were confused, the film was reshot with Reed replacing the "second" Gleason. Bet you never knew that huh?
