My Tubal Reversal Story

Yesterday was Katie Bean's 8 month birthday!  Time flies!  We are still awaiting the 24th when she will see the ear doctor, and she has had nothing but problems this past week.  I have darn near lost count of what meds she is on now.  They started her on Zithromax, that wasn't helping so they went on to the Septra (which she had been on for 30 days with no problems before).  Well, she had an allergic reaction to the Septra last week and broke out in all these huge red welts, which required not one, but two doctor's visits.  The second one they finally gave her a shot of Decadron, a steroid, and that cleared up the welts within a few hours.  They switched her to Amoxicillin after she had the allergic reaction, and on Tuesday she had a follow-up - he switched her yet again, now she is on Augmentin.  Bear in mind, we have paid for each of these prescriptions which now sit there unused.  Even on antibiotics, her right ear was still infected on Tuesday.  All we are doing now is trying to keep her as pain free as possible until the ear doc can get those tubes in and get our poor baby some relief!

She weighed in at 21 pounds 6 ounces on Tuesday.  She is starting to show some separation anxiety - the other morning she cried when we waved good-bye to her at day care, which of course made me cry.  I know it's normal at this age, but I can't help but miss all of the kids while I am at work.  If only being a stay-at-home-mom were possible.

Katie had her ear surgery last Friday, March 7th.  Doctor Wyatt said she still had infected fluid behind her ear drum when he made the incision, and she seems much better even now.  She did really well with the surgery - it was at 7:30am and we had her back home by 8:30am!

Things are much worse for Katie with her ears.  Day care called me on Friday to tell me she had a temp of 103.7, and her ear doc was out of town that day, so we ended up taking her to her new pediatrician.  He could not find her left tube!  He said her left ear was infected, but didn't want to put her on any more antibiotics.  She got much worse Friday night and ended up in the ER Saturday.  Long story short, she has a bad infection in the left ear with no tube to be seen, and has been running a temp of 104.  She goes to see a different ear doc today since Dr. Wyatt is out of town till Wednesday.

Katie Bean will be 15 months old in just 4 short days.  How the time flies!  She is walking and running, talking up a storm, and just being her cute  little self.  She has the prettiest smile, not that I am biased or anything!

Figured while I am at it, I should give everyone a Katie Bean Update!  At her 18 month checkup last month, she weighed in at 29 pounds and was 33 1/2" tall.  Dr. Rosen called her "tall and skinny" but to me she's just losing her baby chubbiness!

She is on a daily prescription med fro her chronic constipation (and trust me when I say it has been BAD!).  The Rx is called Miralax and seems to be working like a charm.  It is a powder that is mixed in with her juice.  She had been on mineral oil for the constipation, but the doc said that can interfere with vitamin absorption in the long term, so she is also on daily vitamin and iron drops.

She got a flu shot, but no other shots were due.  She is doing very well...OK - "well" besides hitting the Terrible Two's already and having 4 molars coming in all at once, which makes her VERY unhappy!  She is a sure bet for a few tantrums each day.  But, she is a generally happy little girl, and just growing up so fast!
