New Wave of Metal?
Review of Chimaira's The Impossibility of Reason
Review Done by 6(rob)6

Before this CD was released, I was reading lots of articles and reviews about it. It was getting huge reviews and was also getting me interested. You see, I like a good number of songs off their effort, 'Pass Out of Existence' and 'This Present Darkness' has a few as well. The reason Chimaira never really grabbed my attention before is that it seemed that it was a bit over produced and even though it had some really kick ass riffs, it was nothing new and was almost generic nu-metal. Not nu-metal like disturbed or some bullshit band like that, because Mark actually writes really good lyrics, but the music wasn't going into new territories, that's all I'm saying. So a week before the CD comes out, Revolver ends up having an online listening party and you could listen to the whole album on MusicMatch radio. So I did that and wow am I glad I did that. For all you readers out there, just so you know, I never burn an album or a CD. I really like supporting the band and to have the real thing. After hearing 'Pure Hatred' and 'The Dehumanizing Process' I was hooked. I knew from that moment that this was going to be one of the best releases of the year. The reviews were correct. This was one fucking powerful album. Mixing old thrash metal with new sounding heavy metal. I was in heaven. This album kicks you in the face from the get go with 'cleansation' and it lets you take a breather with 'down again' but from then on in, right up until the 12 minute killer instrumental 'Implements Of Destruction'. It is an album of non-stop energy that makes you want to go knock the fuck out of you're closest enemy. Chimaira is a band of the future, mixing old elements and new elements and they slid away from sampling really on this album, and Chris Spicuzza (electronics) adds such an awesome eerie sound to this album giving it a great atmosphere.

Mark Hunter (vocals) rips the shit out of this album, screaming his balls off and then adding some really nice melody at times but then even goes down to some killer growls.
Matt DeVries and Rob Arnold really were the deciding factor on this album. They decided to have more of a thrash feeling for the guitar's and wow did they find it. They tore up the album with some of the thickest riffs I’ve heard this year and then add in some killer solo's in some songs. Another really noticeable effect is the drums.
Andols Herrick is unbelievable. If you try to drown out the vocals/bass/guitars and electronics and just listen to the drums and you would not be bored for the 12 songs. He is one fuck of a drummer and the double kick is amazing, you feel it right in your chest.
This album is for a metal head. The thrash element is amazing and I guarantee you will love this CD and look out for these guys. They seem like they look at the metal community and know what people want and it’s exactly what they are giving. They are going to blow up. And I can't fucking wait to see them with IN FLAMES AND SOILWORK!!!
