Shadows Fall with Cradle Of Filth
August 20th 2003
Club Denim Guelph Ontario

So the reason I went to the Cradle of Filth show was to see Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall, to my dismay, Killswitch Engage did not make it across the border. I was very pissed off about this, but at the same I was glad that I was about to see Shadows Fall, Pigrem and 6(rob)6 of course were with me and, Rob is the one that told me about Shadows fall. First song I heard by them, made me go and buy their new CD.

So, we arrived at club denim and as usual, like every concert, we were late getting in! So we were at the front of the line, and got right up on the guardrail. After what seemed forever to set up, a band from Guelph came out on stage, Point Blank. After hearing their first song, I noticed the singer obviously had a huge amount of stage fright, and it almost looked to be that they had never been on stage. The singer sounded like Jeffery Moreira of Poison The Well. Even though his vocals were okay, the band obviously needs some work, at one point the singer fell off the stage because he had his eyes closed, due to stage fright. Oh well! Everyone starts somewhere! So Shadows Fall is up next, after an eternity the stage crew finally got their asses together and turned on the fucking mic, Jason (the drummer) was yelling at them to hurry up, it was quite funny. Finally they come out and Brian hits the stage. We of course went insane, I’m pretty sure everyone else there was there to see Cradle Of Filth, except us. As we were screaming along with Brian, he shoved the microphone in front of 6(rob)6 and I, and let us scream a few verses for him. That was a huge highlight for me, my best friend and myself singing along with shadows fall in the microphone, holy shit! Brian even jumped into the crowed and did a little crowed surfing while he was singing, that itself was awesome, not to mention when he was on stage, his dreads were flying around in our faces, and had as much wind coming from his swinging head as a 14” desktop fan, it was a nice cool down though. In between one of their songs I yelled to Jason the drummer “JASON!!!!!” and he looked down, and threw me a drumstick! After their set, Jason threw a drumstick to 6(rob)6, we both got drumsticks, Robs second stick, he has seen and met shadows fall before! And then came Jason to the front of the stage and signed our sticks for us.

Shadows fall put on one fucking good show! and its one of my favourite concerts to talk about, because we were involved in it quite a bit. After the show we went to the t-shirt stand where Matt the lead guitarist/Backup vocalist was chilling. We must have talked with Matt for about half an hour! He is such a down to earth cool guy! we asked him many questions about his tour, his life and just things in general, it was amazing, after signing a few autographs (and our drumsticks) and Pigrem's Shadows Fall CD booklet!

After all the excitement for us, we watched 2 Cradle Of Filth songs, and left. Everyone has his or her own taste in music, we just enjoy hardcore more than dark metal. Obviously Cradle has a fan base, so they obviously have talent. This was an amazing show and I can’t wait until October 29th to see Shadows fall again with Killswitch Engage with Lamb Of God and other awesome bands! That’s all I got on this review!
