STONE SOUR! December 06 2002
I was working, and heard on the radio that stone sour was coming to Toronto. Without thought I bought 2 tickets immediately. One for my cousin, and one for me the problem with this was, my wanted to go so bad, but he had to write his S.A.T's to try to get into American school, the morning after the concert. At the last minute, I invited my girlfriend’s sister Pam. We got to The Warehouse early; there was a very short line. Some people behind me wearing Slipknot shirts said, "hey man, is this band any good" I replied "uh.... what" he said ".... this band, are they any good, one of the members of Slipknot is in this right?" I thought to myself, WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THIS GUY! He hasn’t even heard Stone Sour, and he is in line to see them! LOSER! (If by chance the fan imp talking about is reading this, you’re a poser, a lamer, and every name under the sun for idiot) So, on that note, as soon as he asked that, I got out of line, and moved up, finding some friends of mine. They were way closer to the door, so anyway about 40 minutes of standing in -30 freezing weather, the doors opened. The beauty of all this were besides that one idiot fan, there were no other lacer’s, they were all solid fans, no getup dress up makeup bullshit.
I enter and we stood around for a while, watched Chevelle, they were just Okay, but better than most opening bands I've seen lately. After Chevelle's set, Metallica was playing, while the road crew set up and sound checked for Stone Sour. The lights Dimmed, Corey Taylor walked out in Black dress pants, black formal jacket, and a white beater underneath, his hair was soaking wet and in front of his face, he put his arms straight out to his side, and put his foot up on the speaker, EVERYONE WAS SCREAMING! There was no music, everyone was going absolutely nuts! It was so loud that it was distorting. BAM they break out in GETINSIDE it was pure pit hell! Every single person there was singing, screaming, moshing like I have never seen. They even played a new song off the next album; witch is making me wanna hear it again, because this song was amazing. After the show, everyone cleared except for about 15 people that were wearing wristbands; WHY there were only 15 people there I don’t know! But for sure there weren’t 50! There were about 8 people between the V.I.P gate and me! I saw Corey walk write across the floor where we were, right past Pam, he almost walked into her. At this point I'm shaking like a schoolgirl at a backstreetboys concert, the worst part was I couldn’t stop shaking. Its my turn to go in, we weren’t allowed pictures but I had my camera, I first met Jim Root, he was super cool, I had with me my CD, 2 mini posters, and 2 tickets, Jim signed all of them, and forgot to shake my hand, so when he realized he didn’t, he was like "oh, sorry man! Thanks for showing up!" and shook my hand, the next person was bass player Shawn economaki, then drummer Joel Ekman He was very quiet, I told him he kicked ass, After that was Guitarist Josh Rand we talked for a long time considering there was a line-up but he really wanted to talk to me, he mentioned my Metallica shirt, he said he had a few of them in the tour bus, I told him truthfully that I have 60 Metallica shirts, he thought that was really cool, he wasn’t sure if he had the one that I was wearing, and he used to collect them when he was a teenager, he signed all my stuff, and I shook his hand and said bye.
NEXT UP was Corey Taylor, I wont tell you everything I said to him, because I plan on one day meeting him again, and refreshing his memory, I'm pretty sure if I told him what I said he would remember me. Anyway I waited for Corey to finish talking to one of my friends that was ahead of me. Corey's manager came and talked to me, she asked me how many black bracelet’s I wore, I answered her, and then I asked if I could have my picture taken with him, she was hesitant, I said I’ll give you all the money I have in my pocket, she said fine, just as I went to give it to her she said "you must want a picture bad, I don’t want your money, just give me one of your bracelet’s" so, I took one off and gave it to her, she told me I was cool and took the camera from me. I walk over to Corey "Oh man, Corey Taylor YOU ARE GOD!" Corey replied, "No man, no I'm not" I told him a few things, I made him laugh. I told him the dilemma with my cousin, and my cousin rob, is a HUGE Corey Taylor fan, so when I told him the full story Corey said "Fuck that sucks" and signed the mini poster I got for my cousin "To rob, WHAT THE FUCK?" I said a few other things to Corey, and he shook my hand like 4 times before I left, I look at his hand when he was shaking mine, and saw the "8" ring, the Spiderman ring and his tattoo's, an image that will never leave my mind. I said my goodbyes to Corey, he said my name. "Bye Scott nice meeting you man" I walked ten feet away and sat down on the step, and just soaked it in, I mean, this is what I was waiting for my whole life, I can honestly say now I can die happy. I left The Warehouse and went home. I now have everything framed except for my CD (that was signed by only 3 members because I forgot to get Jim and Joel to sign it.)
So that was my experience, Now all I had to do was wait for Christmas to see the look on my cousins face. I held back from telling him for almost a month. Christmas day came and he got me a sweet metallica shirt that I had already but I had been trying to get because the old one was falling apart. I came in the room with this huge glass framed mini poster, that was wrapped up, I got everyone’s attention, and waited to see the look on his face, Rob tore through the paper, and just looked at it, then looked up at me and said "whoa, what the.... are you serious?" I’m like "yeah man" he said back "no way man, no way...NO WAY" I said look rob, that was Corey Taylor that wrote to you, he replied "NO WAY MAN! THIS IS NUTS!!!" To this day he still can’t believe it!
that is my Stone Sour experience, something that won’t ever leave my mind, I consider it one of the BEST moments in all of my life.
