If you like Bluegrass & Gospel music, you will enjoy the unique sounds of "The Highlanders". They have a sound of ther own, and love to sing, play and entertain the people, as well as getting to know them.. Lee and Carl are brothers that started singing & playing music years ago on the farm,in around West Plains MO. As time went on Lee and Mary was married and she joined in singing harmony with the guys. As life continued they raised there family. Now that their retired, they started back "The Highlanders", singing a few festivals and churches here and there.. but as time has continued there group has flourished, and is about a fulltime job now, yet one they love to do, and take it very serious. Lee and Carl write many of there own songs, heart felt words they put in each lyric, it brings make memories that we all can related to, and you will hear there songs they have writtien each time you hear them perform,.. As time went own they met DeWayne and he joined the band, playing the banjo. DeWaye started playing banjo and 5 years of age, and by the time he was 13 he was playing for Wilma Lee and Stoney Cooper, he also worked for Bill Monroe over a period of 2 years to fill in, Bill nicknamed him the Big De. Mo. State Champion in 99 till now M.A.B.C. Champion 2003 . Plays and sponsored by the OME Banjo of Boulder Co. DeWyane has been playing banjo for 46 years. The Highlanders was happy and proud to be nominated for 8 catergories at the 29th Annual SPBGMA Midwest Bluegrass Awards, and was thrilled to have won in 2 catergories. Carl Trantham won for Bluegrass Songwriter of the year, and DeWayne Price won for Banjo Performance of the year . The Highlanders once again is proud to say they was nominated for 6 catergories at the 30th Annual SPBGMA Midwest Bluegrass Awards, they won in 3 catergoires, DeWayne Price for Banjo Performance of the Year, The Highlanders for Vocal Group of the year, and Carl Trantham for Entertainer of the year. Once again we love to thank everyone that praticipated, and we look forward to a great 2004 season of meeting old friends and making new ones.
