SQUEAKY
Artist Of The Month - EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW!!

TheHMD.com's Sonny Thomas sits down with an exclusive online conversation with Squeaky, the founding member of the pop-punk trio GIRLUSH FIGURE. We find out what she's been up to since the break-up of this hard working outfit and what her future plans are. On Feb 20th, 2006, we had an exclusive update from Squeaky herself regarding her upcoming GIRLUSH FIGURE reunion tour this Spring!

TheHMD: We're here with the founding member of Baltimore's GIRLUSH FIGURE, guitarist Squeaky.

Squeaky: Thanx Sonny!

TheHMD: How was your last GF album, "Rotten To The Core", released earlier this year, recieved?

Squeaky: It was recieved very well! It's been over a year now since its official release and I'm still getting great reviews of it.

TheHMD: What were the most stand out memories of recording that album?

Squeaky: It was our first time recording with Rita Mae, and she was a blast in the studio. She was for sure my musical soulmate in Girlush Figure.

TheHMD: Any stand out cuts that really speak out to you?

Squeaky: The song "Underburned" is about a really close friend of mine and the feelings I have towards him. So that was an intense song to record vocally.

TheHMD: Who's idea was it for the keys on "Blood Blister"?

Squeaky: Mine, actually.

TheHMD: Spurred by what? Flavoring up the track or an accident?

Squeaky: Accident. The original title was "Sea Of Me".

TheHMD: Any possible chance for a GF reunion in the near future?

Squeaky: Actually, I had a couple of them already with Rita Mae and new bassist Sami. Planning on something in the future.

TheHMD: What are your current projects? In a band or working on solo material?

Squeaky: I'm now in Fabulous Disaster, a Fat Wreck Chords band. I'm also writing with my dear friend Mike from The Vote via snail mail, its new for both of us, but fun. Im always recording solo, for fun of course.

TheHMD: You also compiled the "Bitches Brew" comp CD in 2002 featuring a lot of east coast talent. They featured 2 new GF tracks at that time. Any plans of doing another comp like that in the future?

Squeaky: Oh my God, I totally forgot about that, I don't even think I have one. I havent really planned it. Fab D is always being put on comps by others so I haven't thought about it too much. But you never know!

TheHMD: Any other outlets to obtain those GF tracks, the infamous "Spy Eyes" and "Lick My Balls"?

Squeaky: I don't know yet. But, "Spy Eyes" is available on a split 7" with Drunken War. "Lick My Balls", I dont even have that one!

TheHMD: In some areas of the country, GF has already acheived cult status. How do you feel about that as an artist?

Squeaky: I'm glad I was able to do that so young, I was touring like crazy before I was old enough to drink. And now I'm touring the world all before 25.

TheHMD: How have your GF fans recieved you in Fab D and vice versa, how have their fans recieved you?

Squeaky: GF & Fab D share a lot of the same fans so it wasnt hard at all. I've gotten a few comments/questions about the fact that Fab D is on Fat Wreck Chords. That's when the whole debate of "selling out" begins. I'm so over that!

TheHMD: What are some of your influences as far as music goes? I hear you're a big Twisted Sister fan!

Squeaky: I'm a huge TS fan. I'm just a fan of Rock n Roll in general .... AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Fleshies, The Vote, Psychadelic Furs, Beatsteaks, anything good!!!

TheHMD: Who were some of the bands that you've played with that you have a great deal of respect for?

Squeaky: hmmmm... Anti Nowhere League, Legbone, Fleshies, Alice Donut, The Buzzcocks until they all brought champagne on stage, Satanic Surfers ... there are so many. I have respect if you know how to bring the rock.

TheHMD: You are a perfect example of what attracts a label...a true road dog - "has guitar will travel". How does this effect you as a female artist in the pop-punk genre?

Squeaky: My sex does not effect me what so ever. It doesn't hurt and it doesn't help. It is amazing how many people will stick their nose up at you at a show until they actually see us play, and then their minds are blown away. I don't mind it too much. I like to blow.........minds!

TheHMD: Where do you see yourself in five years?

Squeaky: Wherever & with whoever I will be rocking, you can't stop rock n roll!

TheHMD: You have a great knack for pop-punk licks. Have you been asked to contribute or produce other artists?

Squeaky: Yes and no, I havent. I work with a lot of friends but nothing has ever been set in stone so to speak. I would like to think that's what makes good songs, different points of view.

TheHMD: How would you feel if you were asked? Honored, shocked or not too surprised?

Squeaky: Honored of course.

TheHMD: After the shocking death of Dimebag Darrell, has it effected you professionally at all or does it really bother you? Some artists don't think twice about it simply because of their genre of music. Do you think it matters?

Squeaky: I think it was a fucked up situation, a shame. Something like that wouldn't stop me from performing live but it sucks that musicians have to worry about silly shit like that. We're putting our asses on the line to entertain you??? If i wanted that I would have joined the army!

TheHMD: Going back to your music, have you recorded with Fab D at all or plan to in the future?

Squeaky: We recorded an EP for a friend of mine's label, Rodent Popsicle Records, and we are now working on our full length.

TheHMD: That's the label your last GF album was on. Have they been supportive?

Squeaky: Very supportive! They were very excited to release the EP. Toxic Bill is a good friend of mine and since GF did break up the day after the album was officially released I totally owed him something, hahaha.

TheHMD: Lastly, what are your thoughts about TheHMD.com? Any suggestions?

Squeaky: TheHMD is awesome, has always been very supportive in all my projects and is much appreciated!!!

TheHMD: Well Squeaky, thank you chatting with us today and very much looking forward in earnest of your future projects!

Squeaky: Why, thank....YOU!!!! XOXOX

JUST ADDED! - Feb. 20th, 2006

TheHMD: So tell us some of the details about your upcoming Girlush Figure reunion tour and who's in the current line-up?

Squeaky: The current lineup is the last lineup Girlush Figure had & the best I might add; Me, Rita Mae & Sami

TheHMD: How is the response to your tour plans?

Squeaky: Well the reason we are doing this tour is because we had so many people writing and wanting to see GF again. We are all currently busy with our main bands but we were happy to do this tour.

TheHMD: How long will it take place and how many states?

Squeaky: its only about 10 days long and 8 states

TheHMD: Wow! Very impressive for a short tour! Have you already done any rehearsals or is that within a week of the tour?

Squeaky: hahahaha, we jammed together back in September, does that count?

TheHMD: Does it? LOL

Squeaky: I think it does

TheHMD: What are some of the material you plan to cover from your catalog? Any new material?

Squeaky: We are doing a some stuff off of "Target You" but mostly "Rotten To The Core" since we never toured with that record

TheHMD: Any hopes that you might try to record any of the shows for a future Live release as a 'farewell' souvenier? And if you did would your last label release it?

Squeaky: Ya know we tossed around the idea of releasing a live cd from this next tour but we dont want a farewell, we'll always be around just not actively. We probably would want to go with a different label for the release.

TheHMD: So are you really considering a live disc to tide us over till whatever else may come?

Squeaky: yeah, if we can get some good live material

TheHMD: Any plans on where you will record and by whom?

Squeaky: Not at all, so if anyone reading this wants to do it let me know!!!

TheHMD: Will you be making any home movies or videos of this mini tour?

Squeaky: no plans of it but you never know

TheHMD: How do your newer fans from your current bands feel about this tour?

Squeaky: They are excited, most of my bands share the same fan base

TheHMD: Killer! Lastly, what are your thoughts on your career thus far? You've mentioned you've acomplish a lot of things already through GF/FD. What else are you hoping for?

Squeaky: hmmm. All I know is I'm having a blast. I get to make music, see the world and meet amazing people, it doesnt get better than that! Ya know, I'm not hoping for anything else, just to continue what I'm doing!

TheHMD: Anything you wanted to tell your fans?

Squeaky: Thank you for all the kind letters, buying my cds, going to my shows and being all round bad asses. You guys are what keep me going!

TheHMD: Thanx for chiming in with us today, Squeaky on your upcoming tour! See you LIVE as you were meant to be!!!! \m/

Squeaky: thank you my dear, see ya in the pit!

TheHMD: RAWK!
