12. "Meaning of Goodbye"

Written 6-28-2000

The crack of a shell is the beginning of a life so beautiful you could cry
And your eyes look past like the inevitable doesn't exist
Another miracle your perception denies

Fingertips slow upon the smoothness of skin, given by God and by nature
The touch of a synthetic needle causes displeasure, given by man
Yet, with thread, the two could concur

It doesn’t take a sword to cut the marionette’s strings
To let the work of art fall abruptly from living
The work of the murderer could be reattached and undone
But the knot will never fade
And yet one could find no reason to hate

Ironic, isn’t it?  A sincere rose with thorns- so natural yet so contradicting.
True love is free, innocent, marvelous, immortal
Yet boundaries become palpable with a small golden ring

A fool is known under a dirty jester crown, known to live up to his appellation
But could not a fool be also simply under-experienced and untaught,
Simply naïve and more aquatinted with imagination?

Serious words may be light-hearted, a warm night reminiscing of the sun
As one has said, joy is not a reaction, but a choice
Smile for yourself.  Smile for everyone.

Tears are from fear, if anything at all
Fear that shadows will reemerge,
Fear of the moment when happiness falls

Spirit will always remain by your side
Though perhaps lowered with an expression of “Goodbye”, as it has been taught to...
Smile. Don’t let the world’s beauty be denied.
