Profile: David Lloyd: It was the year of the Queen's Jubilee, 1977, that saw David Lloyd begin an amazing career in radio - at Nottingham Hospital Radio (NHR)..  He'd previously been turned away for being too young!  His first show was 'The Weekend Singalong' in December 1977.  He then hosted Saturday mid mornings for several years, before joining Radio Trent in 1980 where he took over the same slot  Unusually, David still continued his work at NHR for a further couple of years, as Programme Controller, determining the hospital radio station's output.  At Trent, David was promoted to the daily afternoon show 'DLITA' (David Lloyd In The Afternoon) and then the mid morning show when Dale Winton left the station.  Following a spell in junior management as Presentation Co-Ordinator, he then moved to Leicester Sound as Deputy Programme Controller and subsequently as General Manager.

He left Leicester Sound to help launch Lincs FM, Lincolnshire's commercial radio station. From there, David went on to take a very high profile job with the radio industry regulator, The Radio Authority.  However, Border Radio Holdings approached David in 1998 and he subsequently left to take over the reins as Managing Director of its East Midlands regional station, Century 106, before being appointed to the additional role of Group Programme Director for all of Border's UK radio interests in following year. In his time at Century, under Border's management, he, probably unintentionally, created the Radio Trent of old almost.  Back came names such as Andy Marriott, Tony Lyman, John Peters, Colin Woolley and even David himself.

David still looks back to his time at NHR as his happiest!

Whereabouts:  With the purchase of Border Radio by Capital Radio plc, it was time for David to move on - and again, he's back off-air - on the Management Team of Chrysalis Radio's dance-formatted station Galaxy 105 which broadcasts across Yorkshire.  David is the Managing Director.

Perhaps David may be back on the airwaves of a radio station (though perhaps not Galaxy) very soon!

UPDATE:  We heard from David via e-mail December 12th when he advised us of his appearance on SAGA 106.6, Sunday mornings 10:00am-1:00pm.  We couldn't report on this at the time - but when SAGA formally announced it, we claimed the exclusive nevertheless.  David presents the Request Show on SAGA 106.6 whilst maintaining his work at Galaxy.   Welcome back David!  Our final comment prior to this update was completely un-solicited - but we always knew David would return - ...just a matter of time we thought!  During the opening part of the first show, Sunday 16th February 2003, David, (who followed Steve Merike on breakfast), enthused at how good it was to be 'back home' and referred to the fact that the relationship between himself and his audience had been previously 'interrupted'.
