Aircheck Tracker
Michael Thomas contacted AIRCHECK in June 2006 asking about Gregg: 'Gregg Upwards from Galaxy 101 started in 1995, though he is now hard to track down, as he has been doing a lot of stuff. Everytime I find something out about him, it is a few months too late, but now I have got internet access, I thought I would try that much harder to find him.'

AIRCHECK has been able to trace Gregg's radio work back to the late 1980s/early 90s, when he spent some time with Gloucestershire's Severn Sound. During 1990, Gregg was presenting the Breakfast Show from 7:00am to 10:00am. When GWR Radio Group took over the Chiltern Radio Network during the early 90s, Gregg's Breakfast show was reported to be the only weekday show to be broadcast from the area. Whilst working for Severn Sound, he also presented a drivetime show which had featured 20/20 news and travel and a short community programme which lasted around 15 minutes. Programmes came from the old Southgate Studios. Gregg then moved on to Galaxy 101 in Bristol for a stint from around 1995.
The early part of the 2000s was spent on the Breakfast Show for Newcastle's TFM. Very much an ambassador for the station, Gregg carried out a variety of work on the Roadshow including, in October 2001, helping to campaign for a cleaner environment, and educating teenagers at local schools on a variety of initiatives in conjunction with the Tidy Britain group. That very same year, Gregg was at the forefront of Stockton's Christmas Lights Switch On event with the TFM / Magic 1170 Roadshow.
During 2002, Gregg was still on TFM presenting a talk-show, which broke new ground in ensuring that listeners tuning in for music weren't left disappointed. Gregg's talk show included a track every 10 minutes or so. Also, more recently, when radio colleague 'Me' Mark Page launched short-term licence radio station Pool FM 107.5 for Hartlepool, from studios in Park Road, Gregg was helping out with a daily show.
Gregg Upwards also spent some time hosting Saturday lunchtimes with internet and short-term licence station Northallerton FM 107.5 which aimed to secure a full-time station in the locality of Northallerton, Thirsk and Bedale. However, after a year spent streaming on the net, output ceased with an FM broadcast in 2004 and the operation closed down when broadcast regulator OFCOM awarded a licence to another group to cover York and the Home Counties.
Whereabouts: It is not known whether Gregg still harbours any desire to work in radio or whether he still does somewhere from time to time. Gregg has been known to operate a fast food outlet near Northallerton's Tesco Supermarket. He's also worked on the area's nearby station Garrison Radio.
Gregg, Sony Award nominee and former co-presenter on Midlands TV late night debate show Central Weekend Live, is a founder member of Bonehead Productions - an entertainment company which specialises in discos, theme nights, outdoor roadshows and full event management. The company is based at Rose Cottage, Birdlip in Gloucestershire.
