Profile: Krissi Carpenter. Radio Caroline, Radio Luxembourg and Radio Monte Carlo sparked Krissi’s interest in broadcasting. Once she got the chance to get behind the controls of a studio desk there was no stopping her - she was well and truly hooked. Presenter jobs followed in Ireland, Nottingham (GEM-AM) and Stoke (Signal)
Krissi was one half of a famed Midlands radio duo, Paul Burbank, being the other (thanks to Richard Dawkins for telling us who the other half was. Both Paul & Krissi had been working on radio in Ireland but came back to England in April 1991. Krissi wondered whether she should send a demo tape in and then keep her fingers crossed. Having pondered this to positive conclusions, she sent a tape in to GEM AM's Head of Programmes - at the time, this was Len Groat. She was very surprised to get a letter back from Len. Although having only been back in the country since April 1991, by the August, she was one of the presenters on GEM AM - she couldn't believe it. Both worked in Midlands Radio on Solid Gold GEM-AM prior to it's metamorphosis of today as a shadow of a once mighty GOLD station.
Krissi gained a select group of fans on GEM with her late night / easy listening, rather calming and some would say, sexy Irish voice!
It is believed that Krissi and Paul no longer share their lives together!
