Profile: Mary Ann Hobbs: Ask Mary Ann the question as to what came first, the chicken or the egg, and she'd firmly tell you it was definitely a large quantity of eggs, as it is in an egg-packing factory in her home county of Lancashire that she took her final non-media job. She is now in her dream job - but Mary Ann built up her media career from the base of music journalist for the likes of the New Musical Express (NME), Sounds and the men's magazine 'Loaded'.
Her first job in radio was for London's alternative music station XFM, then came a stint at BBC GLR followed in 1996 by her move to BBC Radio 1 when she co-presented the station's movie-review show 'Cling Film'. In her current post with the station's Rock Show, she co-hosted on one occasion with legend of the genre, Marilyn Manson - Mary Ann referring to the star as an 'extraordinary character' and a 'conversationalist'.
Mary Ann Hobbs lives in north London with her boyfriend Gus Scott. Both are fanatical bikers, with Mary owning a Suzuki SV650 as well as a Speedfight Scooter, the latter perhaps being for those necessary zippy trips to Broadcasting House. Her ambition is race around Brands Hatch, if she had the courage that is.
Whereabouts: Mary hosts 'The Breezeblock' Tuesday mornings from Midnight-2:00am and 'The Rock Show' on Wednesday mornings between the same times, on 97-99FM BBC Radio 1.
