What a fabulous gimmick - even better than the tiny labels to stick on your radio dial - the Identaplug!  FABULOUS!

YOU, TWO & MUSIC: This leaflet, circa 1993, thoroughly emphasised the breadth and depth of station music policy, with most programmes still featuring today.  In particular, there was reference to Brian Matthew's 'Sounds of the 60s', Ronnie Hilton's 'Sounds of the 50s', 'Vintage Years' programming from Desmond Carrington, Benny Green and Alan Dell and the mind numbingly cringe-worthy, 'Sing Something' Sinful, sorry 'Simple'.   The epic list continues with Friday Night is Music Night, Richard Baker's 'Melodies For You' and Alan Keith's 'Your Hundred Best Tunes'.

The leaflet also referred to special concerts and events, and that 1993 was the second year BBC Radio Two was the 'Official Radio Station for National Music Day', featuring over 12 hours of music-making from all over the UK.   Wally Whyton presented Country music on Thursdays, there was Nick Barraclough with New Country on Saturdays, (now Wednesday nights on the present Radio 2 service), Jim's Lloyd's 'Folk On Two', the UK's most authoritative programme on all aspects of folk music, Humphrey Lyttleton's 'Best of Jazz' and Digby Fairweather's 'Jazz Notes', R & B & Gospel was featured from Paul Jones and Gloria Gaynor, and Nigel Ogden's 'The Organist Entertains' was broadcast Wednesdays at 9:30 for an hour, although this has now been moved to Tuesdays from 8:00-8:30pm, much to the disappointment of fans, although at least it is still featured.

Heritage, culture and music were the theme of a series of programmes visiting Europe, Africa and America, Roy Newsome presented 'Listen To The Band', with additional military band programming in 'Beating Retreat', and there was a demonstration of the range of interviews, with Gloria Hunniford and John Dunn regularly interviewing star names, like Cliff Richard, Gloria Estefan, Phil Collins, Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Michael Ball, Dolly Parton, the late Dudley Moore, Tony Bennett, Barry Manilow, Michael Crawford, Dave Clark, Howard Keel, Jack Jones and Johnny Mathis.

Religious programming from Don McLean still continues today, and there was also Roger Royle with the Sunday Half Hour hymn programme.  Competitions featured heavily, as to some extent they still do today, with BBC Radio Two National Big Band Competition, Choirgirl of the Year and the BBC Radio Two Young Tradition for folk artists plus the BBC Radio Two Young Musician.    'The most diverse music choice - it's all for you on Radio Two'

This page of the leaflet really sums up Radio Two, both then and now....

'YOU, TWO and MUSIC: BBC Radio Two for music from the sound-track of your life.... from Mozart to McCartney, Carousel to Cats, Mingus to McColl, Sinatra to Sade, Pavarotti to Parton.  24 hours a day BBC Radio Two brings you the whole world of popular music - your favourite songs, hit music from down the years, songs from the shows, the most melodic of what's new.

Not forgetting your favourite kinds of music - Popular Classics, Big Bands, Brass Bands, Jazz, Folk, Country, Rhythm & Blues, Gospel and music from countries around the world.

HITS ALL THE WAY - music to bring back memories, played for your every day by your favourite presenters.  Every record is carefully chosen to recall those special moments in your life.  Starting with Alex Lester on weekdays and Barbara Sturgeon at the weekends BBC Radio Two brings you the most of popular music to help make your day.  Four watchwords guide the selection of all BBC Radio Two's music: MELODY, FAMILIARITY, EXCELLENCE, BREADTH'

Finally, of note, BBC Engineers offered free advice on receiving BBC Radio Two and all BBC services.  During normal office hours, the number would now convert to 0845 701 0313.  It would be interesting to know if the BBC still offer such a service in these modern times of techtology.  There was also the similar tuning guide as seen on the top of page 2 of the Radio 2 Museum here on AIRCHECK.
