Paul was the main inspiration in forming The housemartins by placing an advert in his living room window saying "fellow musicians required for busking".  Not only did he sing lead vocals but also played harmonica and guitar. When the Housemartins split up he went on to form the hugely successfull band The Beautiful South along with fellow Housemartin Dave Hemmingway. They also have Sean Welch who was a roady for the Housemartins.
