ALL puppies are irresistible, but remember the
absolute rule

NEVER

get a dog on impulse!

A new dog can bring you years
of love and companionship.
Before you bring home that new puppy
consider the time and patience it will take
to train that new puppy.
Consider the expenses involved in
responsible pet ownership.

Lawns and gardens are beautiful and
you have spent a lot of time
making them that way.
But some trees and plants are
poisonous to your dog.

Poisonous Plants

Daffodil
Tulip
Narcissus
Azalea
Bleeding Heart
Buttercup
Delphinium
Hydrangea
Iris
Hyacinth
Tomato Plants

HARMFUL TREES

Oak
Holly
Horse Chestnut
Yellow Oleander
Ornamental Yew

NEVER

leave your dog in a car
in direct sunlight on a summer day.
That condition can kill a pet in less
than 10 minutes!

A police dog died inside an officer's cruiser after temperatures in the vehicle climbed to more than 100 degrees.

Sgt. John Bullard worked with his K-9 partner, Hondo, for almost a year. Wednesday afternoon, Hondo, was left inside a running cruiser with the air conditioning on, but the system that was supposed to keep Hondo cool failed.

When Bullard returned to the car, he found Hondo unconscious and possible already dead. Bullard took the K-9 officer to an animal clinic, but along the way was involved in a car crash. Both Bullard and the other driver sustained minor injuries. By the time Bullard arrived at the veterinarian's office, Hondo was dead. The dog died of heat exposure.

The system that was supposed to protect Hondo is called the "Hotdog" system. When temperatures inside a police cruiser reach 94 degrees, the windows open, a fan kicks in and the car's siren sounds. For some reason, that didn't happen. Police don't know why the system malfunctioned in the extreme heat.

Police also put water by the dogs in the back of their cruisers and try to keep the temperature around 60 degrees.

Hondo was about to turn 2 years old. He was born in Germany and trained to be a police dog in America.
