THE GIFT OF A LIFETIME
As he drove the highway, he never saw the curve The oncoming truck never had time to swerve The screeching of the tires left a trail of smoke As the vehicles collided, the driver awoke The impact was horrific, metal to metal If only they had thought to ease up on the pedal The sirens sounded in the far away distance Many lives would change in an instant As each minute passed, the victims increased The vital signs of the driver had ceased The paremedics arrived as the police did, too Saving the driver was what they had to do As he laid there lifeless, only one thought crossed his mind Who will be my saviour? Who will be so kind? He was rushed to the hospital, a transfusion was required The call for blood was urgent, as his body slowly tired Fortunately, a donor was available to help his fellow man And for this deed, the victim was again able to stand So, as you read this now, please take this poem as a sign For one day when you least expect it, you may need... THE GIFT OF A LIFETIME
