TRAPPED
My cubs need food, the drought has been long I must search now, I must be strong It has been weeks since the rain has come No clouds in the sky, only the sun I now leave my cave; it is off to the east I must find some prey, so we can feast There in the distance, a rabbit hops away I must sneak up on it, hoping it is there that it will stay The downfallen trees, is where it tries to hide My cubs begin to howl, from deep inside My paws pound the rocks, as the rabbit stands, without a care Perhaps he had realized...SNAP!!!. I got caught in a snare The teeth from the trap, grabbed the flesh, just above my paws I winced in pain, as I dug with my claws The agony was excruciating, to say the least I howled relentlessly, in hoping the pain would cease I began to gnaw at my fur, that covered my legs As the rabbit approached, I even attempted to beg As it drew nearer with caution, the irony appeared The hunter became the hunted, and now showed fear As I lost consciousness, I knew my cubs were now alone No one to watch over them, no one home I can now thank MAN, for my future is mapped Another WOLF will die, for I am ...
