Jeep began as the Willys-Overland Company in 1908. In 1919 Walter Chrysler became vice president to assist in the reorganization of the company. Chrysler left in 1921 to eventually found the Chrysler Corporation. In 1963 the company was purchased by Henry Kaiser, renamed Kaiser-Jeep, and seven years later it became the Jeep division of American Motors. In 1987 Chrysler acquired American Motors, including Jeep. In 1998, with the merger of Chrysler Corporation and Daimler-Benz AG, Jeep became a division of DaimlerChrysler AG. There are currently three different Jeep sport-utility model lines available in the U.S.

There's Only One!
I wanted a Jeep for as long as I can remember.  I don't know why, no one that I knew had one.  It must have been the appeal of a go-anywhere and do-anything vehicle.  After months of searching, I finally  found the Jeep I wanted.  I bought an 1985 Larado in October of '94.  And with it the bane of all old Jeeps ... leaks and rust.  The rust was so bad, that I had to replace the body in January of '95 with a fiberglass one.  That was a huge (and cold) project, but not the last.  I've since had the engine rebuilt and converted to fuel injection using Mopar's kit, replaced a broken axle with a one piece kit, and the numerous nickle and dime stuff that always occurs along the way.  Like bending the new Reese hitch while rock-climbing and having to have it replaced.   I can tell you first hand, Jeep really can stand for Just Emptied Every Pocket!
