There is no better time for families than the Christmas season.
It's a time when we can all get together with our loved ones,
many of whom we haven't seen for long periods of time, give
and receive gifts, enjoy the beautiful decorations and revel in the
joy of our children and grandchildren.

It's very easy though, in the midst of all these wonderful
things, to forget what it is we're actually celebrating.
I think there is nothing I despise more than the word

Xmas

to refer to Christmas Day.

December 25, whether historically correct or not, is the day
we have chosen to celebrate the birth of

Jesus Christ

two thousand years ago.

Don't take Christ out of Christmas!!

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree
from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also
went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto
the city of David, which is called Bethlehem (because he was of the
house and lineage of David), to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife,
being with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days
were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth
her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him
in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

The Gospel of Luke, 2:1-20

If you're a Christian, you believe that he is the Messiah and the Son of God. If you're not, you have to believe he was one of the finest men who ever lived, admire his teachings and wish that all Christians followed them in the way he intended. In either case, we should all feel obligated to honor the birth of such a man.

Peace on Earth and Goodwill Toward All Men !
