******PETE BURNS (full name Peter Jozzeppi Burns) was born on 5 Aug 1959, in the United
Kingdom in Port Sunlight (the town near Liverpool).He is a son of Eva and Francis Burns.
******Since his childhood he has always wanted to be different. This caused problems at his school because other kids used to tease him. When he was 16 he left school. After leaving the school he did some jobs up to 18. In 1977 he took a job in Probe Records with Pete Wylie. In the same year he formed Mystery Girls together with Pete Wylie (guitar), Julian Cope (bass) and Phil Hurst (drums). On 4 November they gave their first performance at Liverpool's Eric's Club. The band worked for three years when Pete Wylie left to form Wah! and Julian Cope left to form the Teardrop Explodes. Then Pete created Nightmares In Wax with Mick Reid (guitar), Martin Healy (keyboards), Phil Hurst (drums) and Pete Lloyd (bass).
Lloyd didn't stay long and was replaced by Walter Ogden who also left the band and Ambrose Reynolds took his place. Eventually, Sue James replaced Reynolds.The band was picked up by Inevitable and Eric's manager, Pete Fullwell, to record a song. In February 1979 they released"Birth Of A Nation EP". Nightmares In Wax lasted over a year (February 1979 to May 1980).
******In 1980 Pete Burns with Adrian Mitchell, Sue James , Martin Healy and Joe Musker formed Dead or Alive. Their first hit was "I'm Falling" released in May that year. Also in 1980 Pete got married to Lynne (she had been his good friend for a long time , they met while Pete was working in Probe Records). A year later the group changed ; the guitarist A. Mitchell was replaced by Wayne Hussey and the bassist Sue James was replaced by Mike Percy. In May 1981 "Number Eleven" was released, in February 1982 the group released "It's Been Hours Now" and three months later "The Stranger". In the same year Epic sang Dead or Alive to its label and after that they started their first tour. In 1983 the group changed again ;the new guitarist was Tim Lever and the new drummer was Steve McCoy. In May that year "Misty Circles" (it could be heard even on kids TV show) was released and "What I Want" in August. In October they completed "Sophisticated Boom Boom" (produced by Zeus B. Held).In January 1984 "I'd Do Anything" was released , In February the group started their second tour. In March they released a cover of KC and the Sunshine Band "That's The Way ( I like It )", but Pete did not enjoy the song because it was not his own ,in May "Sophisticated Boom Boom" LP was released as a debut album of Dead or Alive. After releasing the album many remixes of its songs appeared, that allowed people to know the album. In June 1984 " What I Want" was re-released and they started working on their second album. Then the group consisted of Pete Burns (vocal), Steve Coy (drum), Mike Percy (bass) and Tim Lever (guitar). November 1984- "You Spin Me Round ( Like a Record" was released ( that was from their second album "Youthquake" which was first produced by Stock , Aitken and Waterman).This song made them popular all over the world and in 1985 it arrived at number 1 in the first UK chart topper for Stock, Aitken and Waterman. In March 1985 "Lover Come Back To Me" was released and in May "Youthquake" LP. In June Dead or Alive did a short tour to promote "Youthquake" and also in the same month they released "In Too Deep". September 1985-"My Heart Goes Bang" was released. Later Pete with his wife Lynn and Steve along with the band moved to London. There they started working on their 3rd album. In September 1986 they released "Brand New Lover" , in January 1987 "Something In My House" was released and a month later they released "Mad, Bad and Dangerous To Know" , and in March "Hooked on Love". Afterwards they went on a tour to Japan and America where they released their 4th album "Rip It Up" consisting of the covers of their former songs . In September "I'll Save You All My Kisses" was released. In August 1988 they released "Turn Around And Count 2 Ten". In 1989 Lever and Percy left the group ,in July the group released "Come Home With Me Baby", also in that year in August their 5th album "Nude" was released. In September 1989 they made "Baby Don't Say Goodbye" in Japan and America, in October they recorded the "Nude Remade Remodelled" in Japan.
******A year later their next album "Fan the Flame part 1" was released, also in Japan. In December they recorded "Your Sweetness is Your Weakness". In 1991 they went on a tour to America. In the same year in Japan "Gone 2 long" and "Unhappy Birthday" were released. In 1992 Pete did a short tour of America ( later illegal version of "Fan the Flame part 2" was recorded).Between 1992-1993 Steve Coy became a manager of Dead or Alive. In April 1994 Pete with the Italian dance group Glam released "Sex Drive" and then they toured Italy to promote it. Afterwards Pete with Steve worked as International Chrysis with PWL and they released "Rebel Rebel", they started work on their new album. Later on they left PWL and Pete got back the name of the group Dead or Alive. In 1995 for three moths ( March, June and July ) the group performed in Scotland and France to promote "Nukleopatra". In the same year in the UK Dead or alive signed with D.A.C.O. Records but when Steve left the band Pete dissolved the contract with D.A.C.O. In October 1995 "Nukleopatra" and "Sex Drive remix" were released in Japan. At that time Pete performed solo in the UK when Steve Coy returned to Pete as a group manager and producer with Dean Bright and Jason Albury who became the members of the group. Then Dead or Alive sighed many different contracts with RKG, VMP and Dance Pool. In Australia , Singapore and the South Africa "Nukleopatra" as well as "You Spin Me Round '96 remix" were released. In 1996 in June the band toured Australia where "Sex Drive '96 remix" was released and they performed in America and England. In February 1997 they performed in America again, in June "Nukleopatra" and "You Spin Me Round '97 remix" were released in France. At that time the group toured France and Scotland , in October they went to perform in America. In April 1998 Dead or Alive signed a record deal with Los Ageles based label Cleopatra Records and in August they released "Nukleopatra" in the USA. In October the band performed a Hallowe'en gig at Trilogy in Ohio. In December the same year Pete performed solo in London at the Astoria club. In 1999in February Pete appeard in a UK music documentary named "A walk on The Wild Side", on March they released on Cleopatra Records "Virgin Voices" as a tribute to Madonna. In this album they put a cover "Why is it so hard" , in April "Spin me/sex drive" CD were released on Cleopatra In July they paid another tribute to U2 releasing "We will fallow" (the album which included a cover of Even Better Then The Real Thing) In October, "Party O The Times" was released as a tribute to Prince. They recorded a cover of 'Pop life'. In February 2000 the group worked on their latest album "Fragile" (which was released also in 2000), to promote the album Pete and Steve went to Japan for a few weeks. They still have been working as a pop group, they're very popular in Japan and there they sell their music.
