I recently joined my local library's book club and have been enjoying it immensely.
Here's what we've been up to!

Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur S Golden
I forgot this was fiction and was instantly caught up in the story. Many people had recommended this book to me, so I was really looking forward to reading it. After about 100 pages I wanted to put it down... it was so sad and depressing! But I finished it, and I'm glad I did. It was a good story.

Gifts from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh
Although most of the people in the book club liked this book, I did not. I went along with the shell analogies for about 2 chapters, and then I just didn't agree with them, or understand the point of the author, I guess. Since many of the women in this book club are older than I am, perhaps I just haven't reached those stages in my life. (We have one male in our group and it's always interesting to hear his point of view. He didn't like this book either.) Personally the most fascinating thing about this book was the author, wife of famous fly-boy Charles Lindbergh.

The Color of Water by James McBride
I thought this was a great (true!) story!! The author is one of 12 children, and the book is about his mother and his own story of growing up.

A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson
A hilarious and educational book. I've heard Bill Bryson compared to Dave Barry (and I LOVE Dave Barry) and I tend to agree they are similar, though Dave Barry is much more, uhhh, silly. The book is about Bill Bryson's hike(s) on the Appalachian Trail.... I agree with one person's comment on the book, that it is not for those people who HAVE hike the AT, but for those millions of us who have not.

Have you read one of these books? What did you think? Email me about it!
