INTERVIEW

Here is a little interview sent to me by a confidential source. The interview was recorded and aired (date unknown) on a local radio station which would like to remain anonymous. This interview really did happen with Ben and Keith of The Kickaz before Brian became a member of the band. I hope you enjoy it.

Host: "Earlier in the show, you heard a song called 'Where'd ya Go?' by the Kickaz. I recently recieved a call from a friend of mine in Fort William, and he told me that that song became number 267 on Billboard's top 200 two days ago. Now, as I promised, they're in studio right now to do an unplugged version of a song that will be released to radio in a couple months. So here they are. Take it away fellas'."

Band plays "Bad times".

Host: "That was great...uh...that was the song 'Bad Times' by The Kickaz in studio. So I understand you guys are on tour right now."

Ben: "Uh, Well we're thinking about it anyway. We're not sure really what's going on yet with that."

Host: "Uh, Oh yeah, well, that's cool. So, this is your third song so far?"

Ben: "Yes, our third recorded song for the acoustic sessions."

Host: "Yeah, Um...Do you have any other songs that you're...that you're working on, or uh..."

Keith: "well, yeah I think we could play another one for ya."

Ben: "Yeah."

Host: "Another One?"

Ben: "Yeah."

Host: "That, that'd be great!"

Ben: "Yeah, we've got another one here called 'Watch Yourself'."

Host: "'Watch Yourself', alright...Okay, well, play 'Watch Yourself' for us."

Band plays "Watch Yourself".

Host: "So that was 'Watch Yourself' by The Kickaz. So, do you guys have a website that listeners can go to?"

Ben and Keith: "Ha, ha, ha!"

Ben: "Not really."

Keith: "We're not into that kind of stuff."

Ben: "No."

Host: "Uh. Well maybe you can give us a call if you go on tour or anything."

Keith: "Yeah, we'll let you know."

Ben: "Yeah, we'll let you know. Don't bother calling us."

Host: "Alright...Um. So how do you guys write your songs?"

Ben: "Well...see, it's kind of a long process, because many people, they hear a song, and they think you know, it couldn't have taken that long to write, but in fact it's kind of a long...,long draining process writing a song. Because what happens is, I'll start, often if I'm just sitting there, as I walk places or I drive, I start to get the sounds or melody or a tune in my head. And, as it comes into my mind I start to notice different chord changes and progressions that come out, and that's the first step. And then, as I start playing the song and developing it, I find that the lyrics kind of write themselves. There's just a mood or an atmosphere to the song that demand the lyrics that I write. And uh, at that point I take them..."

Keith: "And, yeah he brings them to me. We sort of go through the ideas, you know, the song starts to create itself. You know with two principle songwriters in the band, songs are pretty hard to write, so...uh, the process is pretty long."

Ben: "Right. We have many people who write us and say 'how come you guys only have two radio singles?', 'how come you guys only have...whatever songs?', And the reason is that because with the band set up we have, it takes time for the songs to develop themselves."

Host: "So it's more of a...just sitting down and playing your guitar or your drumset. It's kind of like an inner,...uh feeling that you get?"

Keith: "Well uh yeah, he plays the guitar, I play the drums."

Ben: "So he doesn't sit there with the guitar."

Host: "Right."

Ben and Keith: (start laughing)

Ben: "Ha, ha...what kind...ha...What kind of...ha,ha...what kind of interviewer are you anyway? Ha,ha..."

Keith: (laughing loudly)"That's a disgrace to The Kickaz."(continues laughing)

Ben: "Ha,ha...this is a joke...ha,ha...get my manager!" (continues laughing)

Keith: "A joke, get it? We're laughing!" (continues laughing quite uncontrollably)

Host: "Security, security!"

Ben and Keith: (laughing continues as ushered from studio)
