Here's a look at the Last Party's discussions in Review...

January 2003

  • Justice.   A new magazine, entitled Justice, is slated to premiere in the Summer of 2003. Although the website shows Robert appearing on the cover, and has even granted an interview, correspondence with the publisher confirms this may or may not take place in their first issue.

  • Hello Magazine.  Robert won the month of January's "Most Attractive Man" poll in Hello Magazine! This means he will be entered in a Grand Finale issue at the end of the year. Way to go fans! Hello Magazine

  • The Singing Detective.   Robert's first film since Wonder Boys premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on Friday, January 17, 2003. All showtimes were sold out and inital reviews are wonderful! We are anxiously awaiting the film's release date, which is scheduled for October 24, 2003.

    February 2003

  • Paramount Classics Picks Up The Singing Detective.  We're getting closer to being able to watch the The Singing Detective on the big screen! It was recently reported that Paramount Classics finalized a deal with Icon Entertainment to buy the rights for The Singing Detective. You can read some of the movies' glowing reviews on our Paramount review page. A release date is anticipated for sometime in the second half of 2003.

  • New Soderbergh Movie - Eros.  Variety has reported that Robert will star in a segment of "Eros", a movie consisting of short films by Soderbergh, Michelangelo Antonioni and Wong Kar-wai.

  • Gothika confirmed.  It's been confirmed that Robert will be appearing in the thriller "Gothika" with Halle Berry and Penelope Cruz. Filming is scheduled to begin soon in Montreal and the movie is scheduled to be released October 24, 2003.

    March 2003

  • Dinnertime Bandits.  The New York Post has reported that producers have approached Robert to join the cast of All for Nothing.

  • The Movie Rumor Mill Continues to Grow.  A Ramones movie is in the works and Robert is being considered for the role of their Manager, Danny Fields. Other names being thrown around include Lili Taylor as Patti Smith, Joaquin Phoenix as Iggy Pop, and Chloë Sevigny as Dee Dee's junkie girlfriend who stabs him. The film's director, Mary Harron (American Psycho, I Shot Andy Warhol) reportedly wants to tell the story through the eyes of longtime scenester Fran Pelzman, who first met the band while working at 16 magazine.

    April 2003

  • Happy Birthday Robert!  For Robert's 38th birthday, the Last Party sent him a gigantic birthday card, which included a list of the Top 10 Insane things we have done because of him. For a peek at the card, go to our Past and Current Projects page.

  • Hat's Off to Robert!  Robert has either autographed, or donated a hat from his personal collection, to be auctioned off in an effort to raise funds for the Montreal Children's Hospital Foundation.   Funds collected during this event will be used to refurbish the Oncology Ward at the Hospital, as well as the new Young Adult Treatment Center at Royal Victoria Hospital.  Robert's hat(s) will be part of a collection which includes donations from a variety of private collectors, political figures, sports and film celebrities.   • Update on Retrospective of Hats  A press release by the Sarah Cook Fund of the Cedars Cancer Institute for Children indicated that the Retrospective of Hats fundraiser exceeded their original goal of $70,000 and raised $82,000. A "Gothika" package, which consisted of Robert's autographed baseball cap, along with one autographed by Halle Berry and a visit on the set of Gothika, brought in the highest bid of the auction: $2,100.   • Update on Retrospective of Hats  A press release by the Sarah Cook Fund of the Cedars Cancer Institute for Children indicated that the Retrospective of Hats fundraiser exceeded their original goal of $70,000 and raised $82,000.   • Nice Little Quote  As we know, Robert is currently filming Gothika in Montreal, Canada with Halle Berry. Here's a nice little quote from Ms. Berry. She says, "He's great. He's feeling great. He's such a good actor. He's smart and he's well."

  • Roast Beef Anyone?  Robert volunteered to slice smoke meats for guests who attended a fundraiser last night at the Medley Nightclub on St. Denis Street. Proceeds from the event will beneift Hope and Cope, which is a privately funded organization operating out of the Jewish General Hospital, and provides support to cancer patients and their families.   • A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints  Robert Downey Jr. has signed on to star in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, based on the autobiography by Dito Montiel. The film is a coming-of-age drama about a boy growing up in Astoria, N.Y., during the 1980s. As his friends end up dead, on drugs or in prison, he comes to believe he has been saved from their fate by various so-called saints. Montiel survived his rough background to become a Calvin Klein model and lead singer of punk-metal band Gutterboy. Robert will play the lead charactor as an adult, looking back over his life. The $2.5 million film will be directed by Dito Montiel and will be produced by Trudie Styler's Xingu Films. Production is set to begin in October. Source: Variety

  • Charlie Chaplin Documentary  In conjunction with the restoration of Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times, which will be a highlight at this year's Cannes Film Festival, a Chaplin documentary will also be shown. The docmentary, entitled Charlie: The Life and Art of Charles Chaplin, not only uses film clips and home video footage, but will also feature commentary by mime Marcel Marceau and Robert Downey Jr.

    June 2003

  • Loveline  Deborah Falconer was a guest on the radio-talk show "Loveline". At the end of the segment, Robert called in to the station, acknowledging his support for Deborah and also joked a little about their relationship.

  • Whatever We Do  What a treat for Robert's fans! Fox Searchlab is offering an online premiere of Whatever We Do, a short film starring Robert, Zooey Deschanel, Amanda Peet and Tim Roth. The story depicts a not-so-simple day in the life of four friends who, after many margaritas, come closer to the truth about their relationships than they ever expected - or wanted.

  • Robert Autographed Guess? Jacket Benefits Chrysalis  A denim Guess? jacket, designed and autographed by Robert, along with Deborah Falconer and their son, Indio, is currently being auctioned on EBay. This one-of-a-kind jacket, along with others created by stars such as Gayheart, Ming-Na, Grace Slick, was modeled throughout the evening of March 20, during a charity benefit, Night of the Butterfly. All proceeds will be donated to Chrysalis, a Los Angeles based, nonprofit organization dedicated to helping economically disadvantaged and homeless individuals.
