Political Commentary

Column by Thomas Sowell, the smartest man alive.  If his columns don't leave you in awe you're brain dead.

Thomas Sowell's Home Page, includes essays and columns

Solzhenitsyn's 1978 Speech at Harvard.  Piercing analysis of where the country was, and is, going.

The Culture of Vice, penetrating essay on the current cultural mess

The Media Research Center.   The mass media is woefully biased to the point of being little more than the propaganda ministry of the Democratic National Committee.  This group at least exposes it.

Ben Stein (an actor / economist / speech writer) is one of those rare sorts who can say a lot with a few words--he should give Tom Clancy writing lessons.  His columns often appear in the American Spectator .

Theodore Dalrymple  is a physician in the UK who has interesting cultural insights.  His writings can sometimes be found in the City Journal, which makes for interesting readinf in its own right. NEW

Peggy Noonan writes for the Wall Street Journal and although some of her columns are unremarkable, when she has a good column it is very, very good.  Can be linked to from the Drudge Report (see below).

Christopher Hitchens rates an honorable mention.   I disagree with much of what he believes, but he is honest and often has an interesting view.  One of the few liberals who can actually discuss something without involving name calling, lapses of logic, deception, and out right lies.  His columns are available on the Drudge Report also.

News

The Drudge Report.  I've followed this site for years, and have found it to be more reliable than other news outlets.  Also a good site in that it has links to almost every newspaper, magazine, and columnist in existence.

National Review.  See the news spun the other direction.

The American Spectator.   More of the same, and usually more interesting.

Fox News.  A news service that doesn't’t hold the premise that America is always wrong.

Human Events.   News magazine of social conservatism.

Cyber Cast News Service

The Weekly Standard

Reason (more libertarian than conservative, but sometimes interesting)

World Magazine NEW

Religion

Christian Classics Ethereal Library   Free downloads of historical documents, out-of-copyright apologetics, etc.

Christianity Today

C. S. Lewis

Focus on the Family

Intelligent Design

Faith Freedom, an appeal to those who consider themselves Islamic

Culture, or what is left of it

The New Criterion.  There really is a serious publication out there devoted to higher culture?

The Gutenberg Project - If a work of literature's copyright is expired one can usually get a free copy here.

Bartleby.  A book publisher of ancient and modern classics that allows their books to be read (but not necesarily down loaded) on-line. NEW

The Harvard Classics - The "5 Foot Shelf" of classics - Read them on-line here

TV Turn Off  - Lenin was wrong about the opium of the masses.

Ray Bradbury, an American Institution.  If you haven’t read Fahrenheit 451 at least four times it is never too late to start.

The American Chesterton Society.   Web Site devoted to G. K. Chesterton.  This could go under religion too, but his work dealt with culture as well.  If there were merely one person like him today this world would be turned upside down.

Red China Watch

What are the Market-Leninists up to?  What future do they have in mind?

East Asia Intel

Bill Gertz - Often has Columns on China

Tort Abuse

If a foreign power did to this country what some trial lawyers do congress would declare war--unless, of course, the foreign power gave them lots of donations too.

Trial Lawyers Inc.  See how they are just in it for the little guy.

American Tort Reform Assoc.

Overlawyered

AMA take on malpractice suits

Junk Science

Nota Bene

Jeff Cooper, a WWII and Korea veteran, big game hunter, etc.  One of the last of his generation, you won’t see the likes of him again anytime soon.  Enjoy his thoughts on the passing scene while you still can.

Scaled Composites.  If you've been hiding in a cave for the past decade, this is the outfit in California that has broken every record in aeronautics.  Recently went into space.

NOAA Weather - This is where the TV stations, etc. get their weather info from.  Get it from the source.

Why isn’t there a memorial for the millions who died from communism?

Documents relating to the founding of America

Micheal Moore Exposed, the 1992 election proved that idiots really do have to be responded to or people will take them seriously

Ever scream at a computer?   This site may help.

Find out if your car has a recall or a technical service bulletin

The Secret Life of Machines.  Nothing to do with anything at this site, just interesting.

If you like to build things yourself, you’ll be amazed at this site as well.  Amazing what can be done with common house hold items.

Backwoods Home Magazine.  An interesting site / magazine for gardening, energy conservation, and self-reliance in general.
