Today while swerving across the N7 from Limerick freelance DCM sales maverick
Fiona O'Brien accused Donegal based folk songster Johnny McEvoy of overplaying
the danger of fish trawling.
Claiming that at least 90% of Johnny McEvoy tracks feature trawlers swamped
at sea with the loss of all hands , O'Brien insits McEvoy ought instead
to write songs with lyrics reflecting best practice for safety at sea,
preventing further fish-based deaths.
Indutry figures have expressed doubt that McEvoy fans will take to tracks
like 'Hand me down me spare life-jacket', 'the ballad of seaworthiness'
and 'The brave Twenty Four that made the shore' as to traditional favorites
like 'The Dread coffin-bark Seahag,', 'DoomHooker' and 'the corpse with
the sodden Aran knit'
According to O'Brien, if McEvoy were to change the emphasis of his lyrics,
not only would millions be saved but thousands fewer would be bored.
