Plant advocates were rocked today by reports that the greenery, long thought
by scientists to produce the oxygen neccesary to support human life, may
not have a role in human respiration.
Suspicion was aroused this week by J. Atlee, an scenic fish-wright from
Balinteer. Atlee explains ;
"I'd left my house to walk to the bus stop, I looked up as I lit a
fag going round the corner and realised I wasn't near a tree! There was
a beech on the other side of the road but I knew I was yards away. Well
I panicked and just froze - I knew I needed air but I was paralysed with
fear. Then, after a couple of minutes I realised I was still breathing
- at a distance from the tree. And that leed me to think that the air was
coming from somewhere else".
Atlee, while not a qualified scientist, speculates that the oxygen is coming
from Santry.
