Lockheed's Official Bio
From the Official Marvel Handbook *With Corrections*

Lockheed is a small alien creature resembling a dragon of Earthly legend. The team of super-human mutants konwn as the X-men once went to "Broodworld", home of the malevolent alien race known as the Brood. While the X-men were there, a small alien dragon began following Kitty Pryde, the X-man kknow konwn as shadowcat. When members of the Brood captured her the little fire-breathing dragon came to her defense. Pryde was reunited with the X-men but they all had to leave the planet because of an oncoming disaster. Moments after they were teleported to their allies starship, "Broodworld" was destroyed.

Pryde regretfully assumed that the dragon had been killed in "Broodworld's" destruction. One day shortly after returning to Earth, Pryde noticed that something strange was going on down in the lower maintanence quarters. While ivestigating, Pryde found the little dragon in one of the tunnels, and the two were overjoyed to be reunited. Pryde was then attacked by alien Sidrian Hunters. Pryde, the dragon, whome she named Lockheed, and her fellow X-man Colossus fought and defeated the Sidri.

Charles Xavier, the X-men's founder, told Pryde Lockheed could stay at the mansion. Lockheed has since won the affection of the X-men and Xavier's other team, the New Mutants, and proved to be a valiant ally to both groups in battle. Lockheed and Kitty Pryde are especially fond of each other.

*Paraphrased with some other imput from me* Lockheed derives his name from "Kitty's Fairy Tale", a tale Kitty told as a bedtime story to young Illyana Rasputin in Uncanny X-men 153. She had changed the X-men jet, the Blackbird, into a dragon in the story and named him "Lockheed", and so she chose that name to go with the little dragon when she got him later on. Lockheed derives his name from Lockheed Aircraft/Lockheed Martin, which designed and built the Blackbird. We really don't know WHY Kitty suddenly came up with the name Lockheed (since it's somewhat an odd choice to name a dragon...even if she was relating the Blackbird into a dragon...it was a cool however), but the name stuck immediately when the two of them were reunited in the tunnels under the mansion (Kitty refers to Lockheed by his name while talking to Professor Xavier and it sticks).

It is not known whether "Broodworld" was Lockheed's home planet or how he reached Earth. Nor is it known whether there are other living members of his race (NOTE: In Excalibur they pretty much assured us that there may very well be other's of Lockheed's race out in the universe, but he chooses to stay on Earth). It is not known whether he is a child or adult or if he will grow larger (NOTE: It has now been stated that Lockheed is a baby dragon since the writing of the Official Marvel Handbook and he WILL grow larger, but we're still not sure because other writers have written that he is from an alien race of small dragons and is an adult, soo this is actually a pretty acurate "we don't know" representation in the handbook). Lockheed appears to be quite intelligent, seems able at times to understand English (NOTE: And he has been known to talk in phrases and such since the writing of this handbook), and even at times to have a language of his own (NOTE: He does. Professor Xavier tried to read his mind later and figured it to be an alien dialect he could not deciper). However, the exact extent of his intelligence remains unknown, and it is unclear whether he truly has comprehension of any language (NOTE: See above for defunking of that sentence).

The extent of Lockheed's strength is unclear. He can probably carry carry the equivalent to his own weight (in addition to supporting his own weight) aloft in flight (NOTE: He has managed to lift Kitty for VERY short distances in an emergency). His forepaws are too small to much, so he usually carries objects is his mouth (NOTE: He's been since known to carry bags larger than he is when Kitty goes shopping in his small little forepaws...see Excalibur issues for proof). Through an unknown process, Lockheed can exhale flame at will. The highest temperatures that this flame can reach are unknown, but Lockheed can wreak considerable damage with it. Lockheed is himself immune to intense heat and flames, within certain undefined limits. Lockheed's batlike wings enable him to fly. His highest rate of speed is unknown (NOTE: He's fast). For unknown reasons Lockheed's mind resists Professor Xavier's attempts to probe it telepathically.

First appearance: X-men #166
