Change default Internet Explorer Download Directory
To change the default Internet Explorer Download Directory opens the Registry Editor (REGEDIT).
1) Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
2) Change the value of the string "Download Directory" to the new path you want to assign as
Internet Explorer's Default Download directory.
Change the text in Internet Explorers title bar to anything you want
1) Opens the Registry Editor (REGEDIT)
2) Open the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
3) Change the value of "Window Title" to whatever you want on the titlebar of Internet Explorer.
Change web browser icon in the Start menu
Change the web browser icon in the Windows XP Start menu:
1. Click on "Start" and go to "Run..."
2. In the run dialog type "regedit"
3. Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\"
by expanding the appropriate branches of the tree.
4. Select the web browser that you are currently using.
5. You can now modify the (default) key and rename the shortcut to whatever you want.
6. To change the icon expand the selected client and click on "DefaultIcon".
7. Change the (default) key to point to the icon file of your choice by double-clicking it
If you are going to use a file with multiple icons inside you should specify with a comma
after the target the index number. (eg. C:\icons.exe, 2)
8. Reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.
Change the Logon BackGround
To change the logon background
1. Click Start - click Run - type regedit - and click OK.
2. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop
3. In the details pane (right-side), double-click the Wallpaper string value item.
4. In Value data , type the path and name of the picture or background, and then click OK .
IMPORTANT: Make sure that you specify the path correctly to the Background.
You have now changed the logon Background.
Change Registered Owner and Organization in Windows XP
To change the registered owner and organization in System Properties:
1. Open the registry REGEDIT.
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version
3. Change the value for Registered Owner and Registered Organization
4. Might also be HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT
Change your Windows XP Welcome Screen
This tweak will only work if you have the "Use welcome screen" option activated in
Control Pannel | Users Accounts | Logon and Logoff Options.
1. Make a backup copy of C:\windows\system32\logonui.exe.
2. Overwrite the file with your new login screen, using the same file name logonui.exe.
3. If you ever want to revert back to the old login screen, just overwrite
C:\windows\system32\logonui.exe with your backup copy.
Add Copy to and Move to to the Context Options
To add Copy to and Move to to the context menu options you must opens the
Registry Editor (REGEDIT) and create the following Registry Keys:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Copy To
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Move To
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Copy To
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Move To
Set the default value for the Copy To to {C2FBB630-2971-11d1-A18C-00C04FD75D13} and
for the Move To set the default value to {C2FBB631-2971-11d1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}.
Remove Recycle Bin from your Desktop.
How to remove Recycle Bin Icon from your Desktop:
1) Go to START and select Run
2) Type GPEDIT.MSC
3) Navagate to User Configuration | Administrative Templates | Click on Desktop
4) On the right hand search " Remove Recycle Bin icon on the desktop " and double left click on it to ENABLE it.
Remove shortcut arrow from desktop icons
To remove those shortcut arrows from your desktop icons in Windows XP:
1) Start REGEDIT.
2) Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile
3) Delete the IsShortcut registry value.
4) Restart Windows XP.
Turn off auto-expanding trees in Windows Explorer
To turn off auto-expanding trees in Windows Explorer you must opens the Registry Editor (REGEDIT).
1) Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
2) Change the value of "FriendlyTree" to 0.
Turn Off ZIP Folders
Windows XP will display your ZIP-files as folders.
If you dont want this, click the Start button and select run.
Then type REGSVR32 /U ZIPFLDR.DLL in to the box and click the OK button.
You can reverse the command by typing REGSVR32 ZIPFLDR.DLL.
