WOMAN'S DAY - WEST END STAR! - LISA McCUNE: WEST END STAR!

Australian TV's golden girl Lisa McCune is set to drop another bombshell. She's getting ready to pack up and move to London, where she'll light up the stage in the West End.

Australian producer John Frost has offered Lisa the chance of a lifetime - to star in his new London production of The Sound of Music. It means Lisa and husband Tim Disney will live in the UK capital for up to two years.

"Lisa has been asked to star in the new show and she's agreed," a friend of Lisa confirms.

"It's not known who is going to be starring opposite her at this stage. It's thought the show will probably premiere in London around Christmas.

"It's a huge coup for Lisa. Look what happened when Hugh Jackman starred in Oklahoma!"

Lisa swapped her Blue Heelers TV fame last year to take on the lead role of Maria in the Sydney production of The Sound of Music, starring opposite John Waters. It broke box-office records and is now playing in Melbourne.

"I was only ever going to do the Sydney production," Lisa admits. "But they talked me round and I do love the show."

The audiences clearly also love Lisa, with the Melbourne season opening with advance bookings in excess of $4 million.

Lisa has only a couple of weeks between the Sydney and Melbourne seasons to marry her love of the past five years, TV and film props man, Tim. They'd met on the set of Blue Heelers, before Tim moved onto work on Halifax FP.

While Lisa and Tim managed to grab enough time for their wedding at the picturesque Victorian seaside town of Queenscliff, plus a brief honeymoon in Noosa, they're looking forward to sharing time out together when the Melbourne season of The Sound of Music ends in July.

"I've been working nights - as well as some matinees - and Tim has been working days, so we really haven't has much time together since our wedding," Lisa says.

But if the happy couple can squeeze in a holiday, they still have a pair of first-class around-the-world air tickets - a farewell present to Lisa from Seven Network boss Kerry Stokes when she left Blue Heelers.

When the Melbourne run of The Sound of Music warps, a new leading lady will be chosen for the musical's Adelaide, Brisbane, and Perth seasons.

Lisa will return to Seven mid-year in the Bryce Courtenay mini-series The Potato Factory. Seven has retained the star on a development project, and she's looking at further ideas with the network.

Other projects - including the family Lisa has said she and Tim are keen to start - may have to be put on hold because of her London opportunity.

While Lisa credits Tim with being the man who keeps her sane, she says their relationship is very much a partnership.

"We always have to consider the other in everything we do."

But singing, Lisa says, was always her love and the chance to headline a multi-million-dollar West End production is simply every performer's greatest dream.
