The Black Thorn

I love this topic so much because I have so much to say about it.  Plain and simple The Black Thorn is disgusting.  If you ever wanted to visit a real dump, this is the place for you.

If you ask any of the bands who perform there, they'll tell you what a rip off The Black Thorn really is.  To start off, they charge $10 to see local bands, some major concerts don't even charge that much.  BTW, the admission price is being raised to $12 soon.  Back to what I was saying, any band who plays there doesn't make more than a dollar or two for each person they bring in.  Where is the rest of the money going?

Besides the place being a complete rat hole, the neighborhood isn't such a great place either (no offense).  When I first arrived, I pulled up infront of a pub across the street.   The first thing I noticed was a man standing in the doorway of the pub with a 2x4 in his hand.  He was screaming at a girl calling her...I don't wanna say, but it wasn't nice!  In my opinion, this neighborhood is also far and inconvenient for most of the bands.

Now we get to the best part of the greatest  club... The Employee's!  Nicki (owner) is a total moron,  If you've been there you know him.  He's the greedy 80's throw-back,

usually at the door.  This guy is in charge of admission prices and making the bands stand outside in the cold for long periods of time.  Once I was standing outside and when I turned around, this creep had his hand in my pocket!  Next up is the sound guy, no one has any complaints about him.  However, I thought of him to be kind of rude and he wanders out of the booth when the microphone volume isn't high enough, it's nice to watch a band perform when you see mouths moving, but no vocals.  The other employee's who book bands, need to get their books straight, if a band is supposed to play a show, they should know about it.

The only positive thing about The Black Thorn is that it is relatively clean, which is more than I can say for Nicki (take a shower dude!).

Anyway despite the disgust and frustration involving The Black Thorn, here's the cool part.  To show our gratitude for ripping off the bands and kids, The Monthly Cluck will begin it's own shows on Friday nights.  If you would be interested in playing these shows, e-mail TheMonthlyCluck@hotmail.com

Oh yeah, and a word of advice, bands, don't use The Black Thorn as a reference to play at other clubs, you'll get laughed at.
